Sputum test - interview reschedule

 Share

Hi,

My wife in India was referred to a sputum test for TB which would take 2 months to come back. The interview is in a week from today. So my question is would the hospital automatically let the Mumbai embassy know and cancel the interview until the results come back or do we still attend it without the medical results?

And when the results come back, will we have to reach out to the embassy to reschedule the interview or will the hospital send the results to the embassy and they will reschedule it automatically.

I know all countries proceed differently with this so any help would be appreciated as we are very confused about it.

She can go to the interview without having the medical results. She will just have to wait until after the embassy receives the medical results to know whether her visa is approved or not.

Did your wife get a letter from the medical clinic? My mom was in similar situation - she was asked to undergo sputum test and was given a letter which said "Do NOT come to your scheduled visa interview" in bold at the top. It may be different for IR1 visa as my mom's is IR5. Anyway, we waited patiently for 8 weeks and the results came negative. Results were sent by clinic directly to the consulate. Today we got an email from ustraveldocs saying we need to schedule interview (Category 2), so looks like no automatic interview scheduling  - but on checking, no immigrant visa appointments are available. So there goes. Now we have to keep checking to see if we can get anything. I hope we have better luck tomorrow.

I don't know if IR1 is allowed to attend interview without medical reports - the process could be different for IR1 than it is for IR5 - you must follow the instructions the clinic gave you.

Yea, she got something saying similar. I emailed ustraveldocs and according to them we don't have to appear at the scheduled interview and once they receive the medical results they will notify us to reschedule the interview so similar process I guess.

Please keep me posted how long it takes you to get it rescheduled.

Good luck!

Hello - OK. So looks like you have similar process as IR5. I tried again this afternoon and saw 1 (literally 1) slot available next week. Acted quickly to schedule it. Maybe they release appointments as they get canceled for every day. Who knows. So, once you get the email from ustraveldocs, do check on ustraveldocs at least 2 times a day, but not too many times either (it almost locked me out saying "You are nearing maximum number of views on this page"). Weird, but that's how it works probably to keep people from checking too many times. I have seen elsewhere that if you do get locked out, the lock is reset every day at midnight EST. Lots of info. you probably didnt need right now, but this forum is useful only if everyone shares :) So, good luck!

Hey,

Hope you are still around. Since we are almost done with 8 weeks wait.

Could you shed some light on the timings of how long the hospital takes to send the results to the embassy and how long the embassy takes to email you regarding the reschedule of interview?

Was you first initial interview scheduled by you or the embassy selected the date for you?

I am still not sure how to go about rescheduling. Wait for the consulate to reschedule for us or pick the date ourselves?

In the case of latter, where do we schedule this as the first initial date was scheduled by the consulate themselves?

Thanks in advance!

Did you find these answers ? Similar state my mom is in. Waiting for her sputum results. Did you get a call/email from NVC to reschedule your interview ? Or did they reschedule it themselves like NVC does initially ?

For anyone looking for an answer on this.

As of Apr, 2023, If you need to reschedule, you do it through ustraveldocs (support team for Embassy). First appointment is through NVC but any thing after is through ustraveldocs. Try to email or talk to them. Their responses are vague and general but if you continue to probe you will get there.

For my dad, I was able to schedule it online at ustraveldocs. I was forced to select an OFC appointment first though they already did their VAC interivew. That part was very confusing but after I selected an OFC date, it let me select a date for Visa appt on the next page.
