My wife's Expired Green Card is about to affect the renewal of her Maryland Medicaid Insurance

I am a U.S citizen by birth and my wife's green card expired on October of last year and she was told to fill out form I-751 (Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence) 90 days prior to the expiration date in order to renew it. After she filled out form I-751, USCIS mailed her a notice of action letter (I-797).

 

My wife also applied for Maryland Medical Assistance back in August last year and received a Maryland Medicaid insurance card. Her Maryland Medicaid insurance is expiring at the end of March this month and Maryland medicaid said she needs to send a renewed green card to them before she can be allowed to renew her Maryland Medicaid insurance.

 

Since USCIS hasn't sent the renewed green card to my wife yet, what can we tell or show Maryland Medicaid so that they know the green card renewal is still in process?

Show them the expired card along with the 18 month extension letter.  Explain that the letter extends the expiration date on the card.

I don't think USCIS gave us a letter that says anything about the 18 month extension. They just sent us a notice of action letter (I-797) which doesn't say anything about the 18 month extension.

 

Attached is the letter that USCIS sent us.

This is your extension letter. Look at Page 1 that you didn't post you only posted Page 2. You can make an Infopass appt and go get the 551 stamp in your passport that is same as the extension letter.
but again look at page 1.

Also [please remove this letter you have all your personal information . Your Receipt# and especially your alien # you protect like it's your SS#. Take it down.

Our USCIS office said they don't do the stamp. They said the letter is the only thing we can use. No stamp.

Did you look at Page 1 it should have the 18 month extension verbiage in it. I promise you that is your extension letter so please look at it. As I stated you posted only page 2 not page 1.

If it says anywhere that it extends the expiration of your GC by any number of months, that’s your extension letter.

 

some people expect it to be something like a certificate but it’s really one sentence in a paragraph on a page of a bunch of words.

Yea about that, I think we may have lost that page. The only page we have now is the page I attached initially.

 

If I ask USCIS to give us another copy that has the first page, how long do you think it will take them to mail it to us?

Well, that's a problem. That letter is the only thing that proves her status in the US.

 

Probably 30 days. Get on the phone with USCIS now and ask them to send another letter.

 

As another poster mentioned, some USCIS refuses to stamp when there is a letter.

Get in the habit of putting everything that comes from USCIS in a safe place. Especially something like this, which is clearly printed on heavier paper and has (I think) embossing on it.
