Getting medical records in the UK

Hello,

My fiance from the UK is getting everything he needs for the interview and all he has left is to get his medical records. I heard these could be a pain to get and so far, we have had no luck and keep getting the run around. When he called the doctors, they told him that the two companies were merging so it could be a couple of weeks but he needs to have a written letter requesting them and bring it in in person to show ID. So he does that and when he gets there, they tell him that he has to write an email. So he goes home and writes them an email but the email is bad and won't go through. He has called them twice this morning, they put him on hold and then it disconnects the call. So I guess my question is, if anyone from the UK has recently obtained their medical records for the k1, how did they do it? Thank you!

You only need a medical summary, not the complete medical history.

Ask the receptionist to print off a summary patient record.

Yes, that is what we're requesting. He gets told different things each time.

Hm, my surgery was able to just print off at the front desk. It was just a single sheet of paper for me.

Your partner could make an appointment and ask the doctor for it, doctor can also sign it then.

Was this recently? That's what he did the first time and that's when they told him he has to have a written request.

I got this maybe a week ago. It will depend on the practice or surgery. For me it was really easy, didn’t have to provide any ID or formal request.

I scheduled an appointment with my local GP to have the required jabs that I hadn't had previously (MMR wasn't given as standard when I was a kid, there were a couple of others I needed too). The appointment was actually with a nurse, and she was also able to print off a list of the vaccinations that I'd had as a child (early 1970s), plus a note about me having shingles (that showed I'd had chicken pox). I took these to my medical and had no problems.

I just had an appointment with my GP and I asked him for a summary. He printed off a two page document which had detail of my last two visits and a bullet point summary of anything I'd had in the past (and anything active if relevant).

Vaccination record I got from the surgeries receptionist on 5 minute notice.

His mom tells me that he had his vaccinations when he was a baby but he had trouble with depression a few years ago so I'm sure they're going to want the summary on those.

It really sounds like his surgery just don’t want to deal with it.

Refer to this when trying to access a SCR.

Yes that is what I thought too. He'll obviously keep trying but I just wanted to know if there was a different way to go about it. Thank you very much!

My husband (then fiancé) got the run around from his GP about getting the records. He ended up going in person and making an appt to get them. It was a pain but face to face makes a difference

For the depression stuff you’ll need a note from the GP saying he’s not a threat to himself or others my husbands GP couldn’t be bothered to do that either and referred him to a psychiatrist to get it done . £400 later he got a really detailed note from the psychiatrist that Knightsbridge were really pleased with so it was worth it. I can PM you the phychistrists info if you wanna suggest that to you GP is the GP won’t do it. The psychiatrist was in Bournemouth
