I couldn't find a dedicated topic on this with current data points.  Any information on what the current renewal  processing times are for the EAD/AP combo card??   I would think renewals are processed more quickly than original requests (based on a google search, I noticed some people on "trackitt" website saying EAD/AP renewal taking 2-3 months, relatively current - https://www.trackitt.com/usa-discussion-forums/i765/1921346229/ead-ap-renewal-timeline), but would prefer some input from VJ community on what people are seeing.

Thanks in adv

There is no difference between renewal and new application. They are processed same. The only difference is that you don't go to biometrics again because they already have the information, but it doesn't have any effect to overall processing times as far as I know. I applied for renewal on October 1st, 2018, and still waiting.

Removal of Conditions

02/06/2021: Filed and package sent

02/10/2021: Received by USCIS

03/18/2021: NOA 1

07/01/2021: Biometrics waived

09/27/2011: Case approved, no interview (K1 visa)

Service Center: WAC

Renewals have the same timeline (although I see that a lot of renewals taking way longer then initial EAD's), but for your EAD you should get a 180 day extension letter in the mail not too long after you filed for your renewal. This way you can continue working even when your EAD expires.

Can I just double check - let's say you wait for your EAD while you're waiting for your AOS. You get it after six months of waiting, but you live in an area where the processing time for AOS takes waaaaay over a year, so you have to file (and pay a fee?) for EAD/AP renewal literally six months after you received the original one to be sure you'll get the new one on time. Is my understanding correct?

There's no fee to renew an EAD granted during AOS for a K1, and IIRC the NOA1 for the renewal application grants a six-month extension for EAD(but not AP), but otherwise yes.

  • 5 months later...

Question: Should I file AP renewal for my EAD/AP card, 6 months before expiry (USCIS recommendation for EAD renewal) or 4 months before expiry (USCIS recommendation for AP renewal). I have a combo card and thus asking.
