Jacqueline Smith Case - Family members arrested trying to flee to Mexico after blaming homeless in brutal murder

Pretty horrific ongoing case out of Baltimore which got national attention.

Christmas 2018: woman, husband, and stepdaughter(??) were traveling home when as the family members told it, they stopped to help a homeless panhandler, cradling a baby on a freezing night. Woman was stabbed to death by mysterious panhandler and accomplice. Husband claimed to be upstanding citizen, minister, and it drew local and national attention, preyed upon fears of the worst stereotypes of the city, and resulted in measures against the homeless and panhandlers in the city. Since then we'd really heard nothing about the case until last night's press conference when they announced not only was the husband and stepdaughter the prime suspect - but they were caught somewhere near the US-Mexico border.

No motive is known yet, but investigative reporters say that the husband had priors including attempted murder and serial bank robbery (he once told a judge the reason why he stole from banks was to fund treatment for his HIV status.. also not true). Doesn't seem like he was a minister either, and some are saying the husband and daughter were in some kind of a relationship. BPD are awaiting them to be returned to MD.

Quote

The case has drawn national attention — and now anger from local officials who said the couple used Baltimore’s violence epidemic as a cover-up to the murder.

“Often times, we have these negative depictions of our city and it’s rather unfortunate when people take advantages of these negative perceptions,” Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby said Sunday.

In a city that has a national reputation for its violence, this case received a considerable amount of attention, including from Oprah Winfrey, who express concern about giving money to panhandlers in the future. Some of the city’s homeless residents said they noticed a decrease in the number of people willing to roll down their windows and help.

Its awful when people and the press get the facts wrong and it hurts innocent people . It happens way too often

We have some of this going on in Texas,  If they can flee to Mexico they can cut deals the US Citizens can't cut.

Example: You kill a police office in Texas, you have a good chance of getting death sentence if a US Citizen, now if you are a Mexican national and can make to Mexico if they extradite you back to Texas they will agree not to seek death sentence.

Another one is if you commit crime in USA the Mexican government will allow you to trail and jury in Mexico and spend a much shorter jail sentence in Mexico.

Just when you think you have TDS eradicate,  a new case shows up.

Story today is that they had told members of the church that ''god called them to go minister in florida'' and sent a photograph of them sitting under palm trees. They had tried to change their appearance quite a bit. He only served 12 years for his serial bank robbery. The murdered woman's mother, always believed the husband had done it. Still no word on the motive yet.

The same thing that motivates people to pick up a gun and shoot another human being... a sick and twisted mind.  (Yet many try to blame the gun.)

In this case it was a knife. And yes, obviously a disturbed mind, but in general there is usually another extra motivating factor. There is a lot the BPD isn't saying yet.

You got my point though.  Knife killings are not sensationalized in America like gun homicides.

As for the motive, I’d say the father-daughter relationship is at the root.  Insurance may have played a part, but I doubt it was a leading cause.
