It is sad to hear your news. I would think that to have make it this journey you are a strong person. Seek support from friends & family. And then there are the things that need to be done.

Take it a day at a time and a step at a time, and you'll make it through this.

I recommend ordering multiple copies of the death certificate, just to be safe.

Good that you're seeing the counselor.

If you're still in Sugar Land, good; you can distract yourself in many positive ways.

THank you @TBoneTX,

Yes I am still in SL and I have ordered 21 copies of the DC. i am trying to take it one step at a time but it gets harder by the day. We only had a direct cremation, hence I think I'd have to ask the mortuary for some paperwork to send to USCIS. The other creditors i'm not worried about now. Its just USCIS is so finicky with everything, I needed to make sure I dont let something slip through the holes!

I am very sorry for you loss and as stated you have to wait the five years. Also try to get out the house and occupy your time. Being alone isn’t what you need at the moment. Also @redheadguy03 she can say whatever she wants mentioning terms and agreements don’t matter. People on this site seem to be insensitive to folks when they just want a little support and want answers.

You can't gain citizenship through marriage since your spouse passed. Also, don't tell people they can't post that's against the terms of visa journey. Are you sure it was negligence? If so, get yourself a lawyer.

I think you need to be more sensitive to her here. She NEVER said not to post. She said if you dont have anything nice or helpful to say, to stay away. Which I agree. Pay attention!!

Dear VJ family,

My husband the USC passed away on Feb 11, 2019. I know that it is too soon for me to be thinking about what to do next but please try to understand that I am couped up in our house all alone by myself and trying to do things on my own but failing at it with bouts of dpression and anxiety attacks at most times! So, please if you do not have something nice and helpful to say please stay away.

We were married since Aug 14, 2015 and have been in a happy married life. I lost my husband due to medical negligence on the above mentioned day. Sept 2018 marked three years of our marriage and Dec 2018 marked three years of being a legal resident through marriage and I was eligible to apply for N-400. Now my N-400 and my I-751 are pending at the NBC with an 18 month estimated wait time.

My question is,

Do I withdraw the N-400 application?

If I do, is that going to make my I-751 application start afresh?

Valueable input is much appreciated.

T&E

I am so very sorry for your loss. How devastating. You stay strong for the sake of your husband and the beautiful marriage you both had. I would definitely definitely see an immigration lawyer at least pay for the consultation if you cannot afford him to take over.  Everyone else is giving you great advice. God bless you and God be with you!

I'm very sorry for your loss. This must be a very rough period for you.

As for advice, I agree with the others - get copies of the death certificates as they'll be needed for various purposes (not just immigration).

You can reapply for naturalization at the 5 year mark. The current application no longer being valid won't be held against you in anyway at all.

I wish you the best.

Inhibiting somebody from posting (i.e. telling them to stay away unless they respond in a certain way) is against the TOS.

At the same time, I think it is one of those times where it doesn't need to be pointed out. And what kind of monster would actually be mean here?

no one is commenting harshly.  however, it is against the terms of service to tell people not to post.

That's a good idea.  The mortuary should certainly be happy to help you.

Check your PM box.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I think you have received solid advice and I don't have anything to add to that. I just wanted to share my condolences as well. I cannot imagine what you are going through, and what a tough road this must be. I think honoring your husband by continuing whatever bucket list the two of you had together is not only a beautiful way to honor him, but also a beautiful way to occupy yourself and your time in a positive way while you grieve. I think he'd be happy to know you did that.

Prayers and well wishes for you, and for peace during this difficult time. Hang in there, and just take it one day at a time.

Håll ut, y'all.
