You can never become a citizen before being approved for ROC. If you file for citizenship and get an interview before your ROC has been processed then you get a combo interview - both ROC and citizen in one interview. So the ROC is being processed and approved too, or else there won't be a citizenship.

I guess you're right, technically, they would be approved at the same time perhaps with a single interview. Our good friend told us she never had a separate ROC interview.

 

But the point was we don't have to wait for ROC interview/approval in order to start  the naturalization process. So start studying

Correct, those who want to file for citizenship can absolutely do so before ROC has been processed, some even think it might speed up the ROC depending on how long the processing times are for Naturalization in their area. 

 

I haven't yet decided if I will file under the 3 year rule or the 5 year one. 5 year is easier.. But the 3 year rule is available only one year from now.. 🤔

Because the reason you get to file early (under the 3 year rule) is that you are married to the same US citizen for all those 3 years. That means that USCIS wants all kinds of proof of bonafide marriage (just like at the ROC step) which creates a ton more work for the applicant (you already know how bad ROC is in that regard). 

 

When you file under the 5 year rule you don't need to send any relationship proof at all. Meaning very little paperwork = easier.

Hello everyone! Is there an average number of days/weeks from the moment you receive your 18-month extension letter to when you receive your biometrics appointment? Our USPS says we had mail from USCIS two Fridays ago but we never got it. My husband filed a case with them so they can investigate where it went. My timeline is below for reference. Thank you so much!

I have submitted my application to the same SC. I got the NOA1 and extension letter about a week after, sometimes it takes from one week to two weeks. However, I understand your worries, but remember the patience game has been started. You must have a long breath with the USCIS.

Whether you file the N-400 Naturalization, whether 3 yr or 5 yr its the same thing. 

I checked the online application and paper application, its the same thing, I dnt think we need to send any extra proof of marriage for N-400.

They will absolutely require proof of bonafide marriage, or else a couple can just pretend to stay together in fraud so the foreigner can file for citizenship 2 years early. Same requirement as for the ROC, you can't get passed it without proof of bonafide marriage. 

 

The N-400 form is still the same no matter what rule you file under, it's the supporting evidence that differs big time.
