Thank you for this. So if my fiancee would have a connecting flight from the Philippines to JFK then Norfolk, VA. JFK would be her POE? I saw that some take a while to process in their POE, so is it best to book both flights separately?

JFK would be their POE. I recommend 4 hours between POE landing and next flight. This will give "them" time to go through immigration, collect their luggage, transverse through customs, check baggage for the onward flight, get through security, get something to eat and then make the flight. All take different amounts of time. If you can control the layover then one ticket is fine. If you can't then two tickets are best. BTW purchase either a round trip (Philippines to JFK) or one way which ever is cheaper. If you go the round trip route you can throw the return away and not use it. OR, some have booked the return a year out and used it to return for a vacation.

Yesterday was a great day for March filers.  I'm hoping that the streak continues today!  I'm happy to see everyone getting one step closer to being with the person they love.

My estimated approval date is my birthday and I'll be spending it in Panama.  It would be great if we got the approval notification while we are together.

Same! We'll be together for the next 3 weeks...would love to share that emotional day in person and not through Facetime 😅. I hope we all hear good news soon!

I've wondered about that myself, whether to get my fiance a one-way our round trip ticket. Round trip tickets are actually cheaper, but then I was thinking, "Will customs think it's weird that my fiance coming over on a fiance visa has a round trip ticket?"

They could care less. They see it all the time and understand.  Besides it can be explained away and will not affect the movement through immigration.

Anyone have an idea on background checks with Afghanistan? Do they take longer than usual? Fingers crossed hoping for an approval soon

Yep. That's an embassy that takes a very long time to work through to a visa.

Additional screening and background checks based on country of birth, citizenship, or residency in the “State Sponsors of Terrorism” (T-7) list: Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Libya, North Korea, Sudan, Syria; or from the “List of 26”: Afghanistan, Bahrain, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, UAE, Yemen. This is a mandatory stop list and allegedly takes 2 to 4 days, thanks in part to the partially rolled out PATRIOT (Pre-Adjudicated Threat Recognition and Intelligence Operations Team) system managed by ICE, but often take 3 to 6 weeks and if there is a hit who knows how long.

This should be a pretty good week for March filers.  I hope that we all get good news soon!

Today has been oddly quiet here on VJ.  I don't see any NOA2 updates today :(

Will it affect our application If my beneficiary's mother overstayed and is currently still undocumented in the US or will it be treated as a separate case if we didn't keep her location a secret on the 129f? Thanks for everyone's help :)

Your application stands on its own merits.

Both Military status and Vietnamese citizens do not overly influence the application process.  You'll be fine.

Thank you! It’s a relief to hear because some people mentioned that these factors might make the process longer. Guess I just need to keep waiting for the NOA2.

Yeah I checked mine first thing this morning, but alas....

Still though, it's not even been 3 months since my NOA1, so I should be more patient. I just check the forum here more on account of some March filers haven gotten their NOA2.

I understand how you feel, my NOA1 is March 11th and I have been checking my status everyday. But nothing else we can do rather than wait :( I truly hope we all get our approvals soon.

@Elif_and_Greg

I'm with you.  Every morning, I check my email and text, check the old site, check the new site, check USPS informed delivery, and then check the Venezuela Passport ministry to see if her passport extension stamp is ready.  After I strike out on all of those, I log on here and hope that you guys have received good news.  LOL.
