Hey everyone, just keen to know your opinion on my case.

My fiancé and I are meeting in Japan this June 8. Hotel and tickets were both booked since February. We passed the medical exam last week and the earliest available interview slot as of today is May 23rd. Any idea how long it usually takes for the passport with visa to arrive? Is it safer to book the interview after our trip (June 17 onwards)? Or has anyone of you ever "borrowed" your passport from the USEM after passing the interview?

I'm asking because:

1. If I schedule it on May 23rd and get denied, we can get married in June (Japan or Philippines) then take the CR1 route. (Not sure if I'll be able to get the passport in time before the trip though.)

2. If I schedule it after our trip, and get denied, it will be costly as he'll have to book another trip to the Philippines.

Not really trying to be a pessimist here, but I'm just considering our options time-wise and money-wise. Hope you can help me! Thank you.

Could someone tell me what I would need to do if my case reaches the 6 weeks without NVC having my case or issuing a case number?  I am getting closer to 5 by this Monday I believe.

No one can say how long if we could we would be rich from playing lottery.

Philippines is the easiest embassy to interview at. 99.9999999 ppl pass. You can schedule before or after makes no difference.

Have you called them yet, they usually don't take that long?

I have been calling them several times per week and nothing.  I even wrote a couple of e-mails.  The latest one (received yesterday) said something along the lines of me not providing them with all the necessary information to search (even though I did because I re-read the submission).  Nevertheless, I submitted another inquiry asking them about my case and even putting the information I "missed" previously within the message.  I know it can take up to 6 weeks, but as you said, that is not as common or has been happening lately, so I am getting a bit concerned.

So your case IS or IS NOT at NVC? NVC can do an inquiry back to USCIS to find out what happened but I think they wait the 8 weeks to do that, try requesting they do that and see what they say, other than that I think your only recourse is continue to wait and call.

No, from what I know is not even at NVC.  They keep asking me if it has been 6 weeks, which I assume is to then to that inquiry you mentioned.  I guess I will wait patiently until the 6-week mark and see if they can do that for me.  Thanks! 😥

Thanks for the input. I am going to do that this week then. Yes, I’ve heard is tough to get through but it doesn’t hurt to try. :) At least by doing so, even if I don’t get an answer, I know I’ve tried everything to avoid any issues. Thank you for your help!
