Okay USICS sends approved NOA2 to the NVC, then we call after about two weeks to see if they have received it. Then do we call them back again to find out if they have assigned a case #? And after the case # has been assigned then it's ready to be shipped out to the embassy and all the background checks have been completed?

There is really no need to call except to get the NVC case number. That you will use to follow the status of your case on ceac.state.gov.

So USCIS approves your case when all background checks (BGC) have been completed and they are satisfied with the outcome of the BGC. It is sent to NVC for the case number. The NOA2 is sent to the petitioner which at that point you can make a call to NVC to see if a case number has been assigned. If not then wait a day or two and call back. Once you have the number then you can go to ceac.state.gov for updated status reports. As a K1, when checking your case online at CEAC.state.gov you have to select "immigrant visa" as it is treated as such even though it is a "non-immigrant visa".  Technically the K-1 is a non-immigrant visa with intent to immigrate, but it is treated like an immigrant visa because of the AOS. It is kind of a ba$tard. Non-immigrant case treated like an immigrant case. The K-1 on its own is a single entry, with a short time limited visa that expires within 90 days after POE. That is why it is a non-immigrant visa treated like an immigrant visa.

Once you see your results You'll be in either of three stages 1) transit - shipment is in the air or soon will be, 2) received - physical case file is at the Embassy and 3) ready - your case is ready to schedule and complete your interview.  These will be your current state or status to your case file once you have received the case number.

Thank you so much this is super helpful and I really appreciate it! I've read the Embassy in Albanian's website and they make it clear to not schedule an interview date until they notify you that the documents are complete after sending Packet 3. I guess my question is if I check the CEAC website on the current status of my file once it's in transit, etc. Do you think this would affect anything with the Embassy or is that entirely different?

And when I updated my info online for the NVC I put in my email address, and then in the comments I re-entered mine as well as my fiance's, do you think the embassy will then just notify me when they receive our file?

Sorry if this is too much Albania's portal has some helpful info but doesn't have the answers to my questions lol

Yes they either email it to you or if you want to know asap you must keep on calling to get updates. After getting the case number they will ship it to the next batch. But i dont know what background check do you mean? Haha. Once after getting your case number you have to wait for your case to be at the embassy before you schedule for your medical and interview just to be safe

Lol sorry I guess as I understood it that NVC does more background checks for the petitioner and the fiancé. I know that USCIS primarily does the petitioner and that of course the embassy will do even more on the fiancé. What I was wondering is that when NVC assigns the case # then does that mean that they did their thing gave it their Stamp of approval and it’s ready to go to the embassy

Has no affect on your case proceeding without any problems. You can check and check and check if you like. You can also see the shipping of your case when it turns to in transit status. To do that check the first post on this thread and review the DHL hack that I have their.

And when I updated my info online for the NVC I put in my email address, and then in the comments I re-entered mine as well as my fiance's, do you think the embassy will then just notify me when they receive our file? The Embassy section on VJ states (this is someone else's experience) that it will take about 30 days before they contact you. To see where I found that information select your flag and in the upper middle section of the page you will see Tirana Consulate Information and then choose that link and it will take you to that page.

Sorry if this is too much Albania's portal has some helpful info but doesn't have the answers to my questions lol

We all are here to try and help each other out. It's the ones who want to be spoon fed and never try and answer their own questions that drive me batty. Especially those who ask the same question as an individual that had asked it just before and I answered it. Didn't even take the time to read the post that were entered since they were last on. But anywhoo. Ask away.

Yes once you have your case number then you are good to go. You just have to wait for the next shipment and let your file get to your embassy. Case number can let you track down where your file is at and all you have to do is wait and complete all your documents for the interview :)

USCIS does the background checks. You (beneficiary) will supply your police report and additional information including your fingerprints which is the only two items the Embassy is concerned with. The PC is reviewed for problem during the interview and the fingerprints are run against a database during administration processing after the interview.

In a nut shell as what was stated earlier BGCs or checks of ANY kind are a ongoing process throughout the K1 process. For lack of a better explanation  when NVC gives you your case number it means they are forwarding your case to the next department. NVC does give it a once over to check certain things but to answer your question  BGCs are ongoing.

For your information  I did update my email address with the  NVC prior to my case arriving there. I did receive an email notifying me my case had arrived. Like as what has been stated it works for some others it does not. It's a simple thing to do even if it does not work for you.

Typically it takes 2-3 weeks. USEM does not require the NVC letter nor does the medical. The medical requirement is the Embassy Eligibility Letter which is sent after your file goes to "ready" status. Remember you asked me about Hank's website and do you remember my reply to you? It just so happens your question was answered in the third paragraph in great BIG letters. If you follow it step by step you will PASS using those steps guaranteed.

Called NVC and got my case number today. I'm not for sure but it seems like they go (for the most part) in date your case was received at NVC order. Yesterday most everyone that got their number their case was received on 3/19 now today my case was received on 3/20 and I got my case number. Could be a fluke though, not really sure.

Yey! Now we will just have to wait for our cases to be shipped, hopefully nextweek April 2 as they’ve said 👏🏻
