For those who have got their interview notice, how long in advance did you receive the interview notice? Our case status just updated today to interview scheduled (March 8th receipt date, San Antonio, TX office) and I’m worried the interview date is going to be before September 10th. My husband and I will he married for 2 years on September 10th, so I’m hoping the interview date is after the 2 years, so that he can get the permanent green card and not have to pay more money to apply for removal conditions. We are also going to be out of town the last week of August, so I really hope they give more than 3 weeks notice. We have to go out of town for my grandpa’s funeral. Would love some insight!

Our status changed to interview scheduled exactly a week ago(August 2nd)

Today we got our interview letter in the mail(August 9th)

Interview date is September 10th.

From research it seems like interviews are a little over a month from when you get the Interview scheduled update.

I have exactly the same dates except my interview is the 9th! I see you’re also in the LA area, it’s nice to see they’re moving cases along

Yes it does. We were very surprised to get the update last week as we thought this wouldn't happen until next year. We're super thankful.

My friend filed on January 4th and her field office is Downtown LA. She had her interview on August 6.

my office is Santa Ana Orange County and nothing is moving down here. Wish we live in LA county 🤦‍♀️

Quick question:

Do we need to do anything with our Social Security Card once the work auth arrived?

Depends. If you marked on the EAD form that you want to request a new ssn card automatically then you should just get it in the mail without going to the ss office.

Otherwise, it is your responsibility to inform SS office about change in your legal status or name change etc., it's all stated on the paper that came with the initial SS card.

With EAD, you should make sure your SS card has the wording restricting work removed. My understanding is that the employers inform SS office that you're working because it's counted towards your social securiy/retirement whatever they call it later. So if you didn't get the work restriction removed from the SS card and then started working, SSA basically still has in the system that you're not supposed to work since you didn't change it then it'll be a red flag for them and they may take further steps.

Anyone please correct me if I'm wrong

I do not believe this is quite correct. SS card says "Valid for work only with DHS Authorization" EAD is that authorization. So, if you have EAD you keep using your original SSN card with restriction words on it. Once you get green card, you may ask for new SS card issued that doesn't have the restriction. SS tax withholding are employer responsibility, as is verifying your authorized for employment status. Employers have to file form I-9 for everyone they employ. Be extremely careful they do not check "Employee is a citizen"  box until you are naturalized. There was a case recently where AoS was denied along with life time bar for misrepresentation because during interview woman stated she signed I-9 with "I am a citizen" checkbox marked erroneously by the employer.

Just called USCIS and they were about as helpful as a pile of bricks. They would only tell me the information exactly as it appears on the case status tracker. When I asked if it had even been assigned to an officer, she told me she couldn’t access that information...

Call again and get someone else. It seems to totally depend on who you get. I had best luck calling right at 8am EST.

Seems like you and us have interview on the same day,  a month from now.

Good point! The EAD and DHS authorization didn't link in my head. I think I saw some people had another wording on their SS cards that literally said they are not allowed to work, nothing about the DHS authorization. I'm not sure what visa they were on when they got their first SS card but I'd assume those would be the ones who would need to go get that wording changed/removed anyway.

I double checked the SS card information and it says to make sure that your employer uses the exact name and SS number for you as shown on your SS card since the SS office records everyone's earnings based on that information - that's what I was referring to by saying they get information from employers and it could be a red flag if you're earning money but their system says you shouldn't. But I guess it would apply only to those whose SS card says "cannot work at all" instead of can work with DHS author.

Anyone from Vegas have their interview scheduled yet? My Category is F2A. I applied for my AOS wayyyyy too late when I could have applied for it one year earlier. I'd have been done with my interview by now. Is there any way we can request to expedite the interview?
