Passport, SS, DL. From what I understand, when the DMV looks up your SS#, it should be under your new name already.

I'm just waiting for my passport and then I'll drop by SS. I dont think I'll change my unrestricted DL for now since I didn't have a name change.

There is no sequence, but I suggest this.

1. Register for Voting - Online or in County - Same Day as Naturalization

2. Apply for Passport - Walkin to County office or Post Office  - Same Day as Naturalization

3. After 10 days from Naturalization - Update Social Security at their Office - Need the Naturalization Certificate

4. Driving License can be updated when it is due for Renewal - If you Prefer to change your legal status from Resident Alien to Citizen you can do it early too. Optimize your financial spend.

#3. You're only the second person besides the guy at the SS office who mentioned Nat. Cert. instead of Nat. Cert. or US passport (as requirement) even though it's written everywhere online that passport is ok. I have to go back a second time bec SS wanted the Nat. Cert. even though I had my US passport with me at that time.

@bestluck@mitefa

Finally received back my certificate of naturalization from passport processing!

just an fyi. I did expedited passport processing with 1-2 day expedited delivery. Applied on a Thurs, got my passport book 9 days after applic, the passport card 11 days after applic and the certificate 13 days after applic. The woman at the post office suggested money order (instead of check) if you want the passport processed as soon as they receive it. The USPS fee can be charged on a credit card. I was hoping that USPS could overnight deliver to them so they could process my applic that Fri. she said though that there was no such delivery and that it would arrive there on a Saturday. So it was 4 days after applic that they were able able to work on it. It was still fast though.

Now I can go back again to the SS office to update my citizenship status! I was there 2 days ago but this guy wouldn't accept my US passport saying what he needed was the certificate. So guys, just bring the certificate with whatever you have just in case. Best yet, if there is an SS representative at your oath, just do it there and get it over with. Your oath ceremonies will be here soon so try not to get traffic tickets before then! :)

I'm driving religiously respecting every speed limit, no traffic ticket so far, most likely I will be clean at the time of my oath ceremony! My form N-445 is intact!, when I go there then I will fill it out inside and my answers will be NO NO NO NO! lol

In reference to the SS dpt, I'll wait until I get my Certificate back  or like you are saying, any SS representative but do they recommend to wait a couple of days or a week to go to SS office??

I think that's the best way to do it!

yup, all NOs is great! fyi I went to my oath 30 min before appt time and there were already a lot of people. USCIS already started processing the petitioners.

USCIS recommends at least 10 days for SS update but if they provide a SS representative at the oath, you can do it then.

I actually just went back to SS again, this time with both the NatCert and US passport. Just happened that the first SS guy did not know that you can use the passport. The woman said that I should have asked to see the supervisor then. Anyway, she said that she'll make sure that the supervisor is made aware of this issue for the next person.

If you go to SS, I recommend going there <5-15 min before closing. Few people left, less waiting. They said I would be seen as long as I have a number stub before closing. Someone actually came in 1 min before closing. My friend also suggested after 1pm.

I just focus on the next step, being there, then I will figure out what would be the next step until the end, great advice about SS representative are in there, I didn't know that

I thought I read it somewhere about SS being at oath sometimes but can't find it now.

Anyway, I thought the wait for the oath letter was bad enough but the wait for the ceremony was even worse. You're almost there!

another thing, I thought my oath ceremony was gonna be at USCIS office but it is located at US marshals office, I might have a SS officer inside the buildings maybe?
