This was from the U.S. Consulate in Montreal web site (http://montreal.usconsulate.gov/content/content.asp?section=visas&document=index). Does anyone know, or have any thoughts about, whether this might include those sent on by NVC? Or am I just reading too much into this? I know it says, 'this includes...' but I took that to mean ALL visas which includes those listed? So confused!!

"The U.S. Consulate General in Montreal will be experiencing an extended staff shortage this summer and fall. Therefore, as of July 9, 2007, we will not be accepting visa applications from persons residing in the U.S. This includes persons wishing to obtain or renew their work visas (H and L visas), student visas (F and M visas) or exchange visitor visas (J visas). As of July 9, 2007, the U.S. Consulate General in Montreal will only accept visa applications from people residing in Canada. This moratorium will continue for the foreseeable future. Thank you for your understanding."

So CR1's and IR1's are still being interviewed there?

ONLY Montreal processes immigrant visas in Canada, so my guess would be yes. K visas have the option of transferring to Vancouver if they live in the district, but I am not familiar with the K process at all. Again, the advertisement on the Consular Website talks about non-immigrant related visas (student, work or visitor) - but I am no expert.

Heh. You'll get an interview before K visas do when your case is complete at NVC since they have a different waiting period with shorter interview times.

Yay:) Why is the time period shorter, anyways? (Not complaining.. trust me hehe,) just curious what the logic is.

The way I figure it is that CR-1s/IR-1s take some sort of precedence over K visas (as they should, since they are immigrant visas) and that they have a certain amount of dates alloted for that per month which they schedule with the NVC around the 15th of each month. I think the standard is about 2 months from case complete at the NVC to interview.

I belive it has only beent he last while that CR-1's have been faster than K1, I know K1'ers were moving much faster than I, when I was going through the process, which always brougt up the arguement that the marriage based visas should be faster over a fiance visa, lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Well it works out well for me, since they still haven't even approved our I-129F yet lol.

This has nothing to do with anything in this thread, but I didn't figure it was worth starting a whole new thread for:

Does anyone know how to generate the barcode for the DS-230? I can't seem to find it in Jame's shortcuts. If anyone knows where the link is, please fill me in! Have to leave for Canada tomorrow :crying::crying::crying: , and want to ship this thing off before I go if possible.

This probably is a big postive for anyone waiting on an interview to Montreal. Frees up some staff for immigrant inverviews and k visas. Plus there are a number of cases that seem to be getting transferred to Vancouver. Hopefully, the transfer of cases to Vancouver doesn't start backing them up. Plus when Montreal stop doing the other types of Visa they will have to get transferred to another consulate (hopefully not to Vancouver too).
