... At the Epcot Center they have this thing called "Soarin'" where you feel like you're gliding across California. You felt the wind on your face and even smelled the golf courses when you passed them by. We went on that 5 times. it was awesome!!!!!

Soarin' is one of the most amazing experiences, I loved it. Can't wait to take my wife to California Adventure to experience it. But somehow I think its not the same as sky diving.

There was one summer several years ago I wanted to finally do it. I had always been somewhat of a thrill seeker and daredevil in my youth. Now I'm a bit of a fraidy cat. What happened?

I had phoned the local place that takes you, inquired about dates, prices, etc. I was pumped to do this. Then I saw a story on the news about an 18 year old girl who died- her chute didn't open properly. It was her 18th birthday and skydiving was a gift from her parents. It was so sad and I just seemed to lose interest after that.

I went in 1995, at the end of my junior year in college. I was going through a "why am always postponing things that I want to do? What if I die tomorrow?" phase. My friend and I found a place in eastern Maryland and scheduled a tandem jump. On the day of the jump, my friend decided not to go. I had psyched myself up so much to do it, that I went by myself. It was amazing, first the rollercoaster-like thrill of the free fall, then the absolute peace and beauty after the chute was pulled and we drifted down. The sun was setting and it was gorgeous. However, the landing was not so fun. Since I did a tandem jump, I was hooked to this guy; I was in front of him. I was alos taller than him and, the way I was hooked on, hung down lower. Not a problem in mid-air. The guy had told me that I could adjust my leg straps if they were too tight (they were!). My thoughts on that: "Are you fricking nuts? There is NO WAY I am touching anything while we are 10000 feet in the air!!!" Not a problem until it came time to land. I was supposed to lift my legs up so we would hit the ground at the same time, but the straps were so tight that I could barely move. I hit first and he fell on top of me. Didn't get hurt, just didn't make the graceful landing I had hoped for.
