I test-drove an Aveo and felt like I wanted to get out and push it, but they could be better with the bigger engines.

I thought the issue with Dodge engines was only on the 95-99 models? I know they had a recurring head gasket problem, but I thought it had been solved.

Make sure you're wearing clean knickers. You never know when you'll be run over by a bus.

my current car is an Aveo--made by Daewoo in Korea

Do you like it?

A bit like my old Pony (though it accelerates a lot better); it is basic.

My favourite among the cars I've driven was a VW Jetta I owned from 1995-2003 (basically drove it into the ground at 2.25 lakh miles).

Not surprising it hasn't. I owned a 1974 Barracuda (bought second- or further-hand in 1981) with an automatic. Initially, it would NOT start in "Park", but only "Neutral"; in 1985, it "suddenly" could be started in "Park"--and I soon had to replace the starter TWICE (second time, I had it reset just as the previous owners, to not be able to). The latest models by Chrysler with automatics STILL cr#p-out the tranny or the starter when started in "Park"--and this is after over 30 years!

yup, vw jettas are great! but i think there were problems with the more recent models (after 2002???) the new 2006 models supposedly have a great engine. My hubby got an 89 golf when he first got here for $200, and that thing lasted a whole year!! it was a beat up piece of sh!t but that sucker didnt want to die! my husband ended up turning it around and selling it for $500!!!

I aint cool enough for a signature.....

Whatever make you decide you, buying through the internet/fleet department is definitely the way to go. You can do your shopping by email and phone, and the people you deal with are pretty decent, not the sleazy / pushy types of guys.

BTW, I'm still shopping. I can't believe how difficult it is to find the model that I want!

Got the car! The dealer had to do a trade so that he could get a configuration that I wanted.

BYW, I saw the Yaris in the showroom, and it gets 34/39 miles per gallon in city/highway. Pretty impressive for a non-hybrid.
