What about the Aerio or the Echo (which, BTW, IS a Toyota)?

Echo's been discontinued. I am keeping my eyes open for CPO echo's though.

Toyota is coming out with a new car called the Yaris, kind of a replacement to the Echo. Really cheap, under 14k and really great in gas milage (over 40 mpg highway). We saw one at the car show recently and fell in love with it. the local dealer said they should be getting them in a couple of weeks. worth the wait if your interested in a toyota!

My husband is on kbb.com religiously! when we started looking for a car for him, we found a Nissan Titan pickup that my hubby liked, sticker price was 18,500.....the sales guy said they could drop the price down to 16,500, which we thought was reasonable and we decided to think about it....then when we went home, my hubby looked on kbb.com. the dealership that we just left had that same truck online listed at 16,500.....so, really, we got no deal out of it! and the sales guy was getting us so hyped up about this great rock bottom price he was able to get for us.....

we didnt buy that truck, ended up buying a 2003 toyota tundra with only 14,000 miles on it for less than 14k. that dealership didnt try to screw us!

I aint cool enough for a signature.....

The Yaris has been around in the UK for quite some time, and they're lovely little cars. Can't recommend them strongly enough. But they're hatchback, not sedan...

What about a Dodge Neon, or a Nissan Sentra? Mazda 3, perhaps...

The possibilities are endless!

Make sure you're wearing clean knickers. You never know when you'll be run over by a bus.

i got an eml yday from our local toyota dealer...they have the yaris on their lot now. But I saw it and it looks like it would get destroyed on the highway!

It's still a Toyota; they build 'em pretty tough!

Another one to throw out there - what about a Scion tC? I'm assuming that if the Yaris is too small, the xA would be WAY too ickle...

In the case of the Neon, it's "brand name" is highly accurate--something to DODGE.

(yes, I have driven one as a rental--like EVERY Chrysler I've ever rented, this one performed abyssmally)

A year ago I did that very thing - used the Internet to find multiple quotes from multiple sites and dealerships and then when I had decided exactly what I wanted went to the fleet sales guy in the dealership who dealt with fleet and internet sales armed with all the homework I had done. I didn't show it to him but used it to show him that I wasn't gullible, that I knew full well what their mark-up is and what the lowest invoice price starts at, and that I wasn't there to be "taken for a ride".

Doing this enabled us to negotiate on price and we saved $7000 over what we would have paid had we just gone to the dealership and paid ticket price.

Hi, when I bought my new ford 150xlt I looked up the ford dealers around where I stay and just phoned asking for the best possible deal and then played one against the other till I they started cursing me out :P , then choose the one with the best price, apples for apples of course, something you have to watch is they give you a price to get you down to the dealership then they up the price due to various spec details so they say. Hope this helpful to all

Stay away from American cars – quality and design are subpar, as well as resale values, if that’s important to you. The only one I liked out of all the rentals I got was Oldsmobile Alero (but they discontinued it!)

09-02-2005 Applications for AOS, EAD, and AP received by MSC

10-21-2005 AOS fingerprint notice for 12-08-2005

11-07-2005 AP approved

12-05-2005 Infopass appt at San Jose office for interim EAD -- Refused, because it is already approved by MSC on 11-07-2005

12-07-2005 Attempt at interim EAD at San Francisco office -- no go. Back to San Jose, where CSO (chief station officer) tells they will contact MSC via email to request permission to issue interim EAD

12-08-2005 Biometrics for AOS and EAD. Having no EAD appt letter was no problem (used EAD NOA)

12-15-2005 EAD arrived in the mail

12-24-2005 Received interview letter; interview scheduled 03-01-2006

01-28-2006 Received replacement SSN card in married name (5 wks since application)

03-01-2006 AOS interview -- approved; received stamp in the passport

03-13-2006 Green card arrived in the mail

The only thing I have against Japanese or Korean cars (my current car is an Aveo--made by Daewoo in Korea) is that they generally don't allow the front seats to be adjusted bolt-upright (unlike European cars such as Volvos, VW's, or Saabs). Some also don't like the cheap finish typically found on Korean models (I owned one other Korean car, a Hyundai Pony, in Calgary).

With American-made cars, the above gets ADDED (probably somewhere around 101st) on my list of complaints. Basically, my choices of American-made cars are:

  • large, heavy gas-guzzlers (if I want any comfort for my 6'1" frame)
  • something underperforming AND uncomfortable
