I usually just find a car I like, or in this case a truck, and then let the best dealer sell it to me. I went to several dealers two weeks ago looking for a quad cab truck. Dodge won out and the one in Irvine gave me the best deal! It does take a bit of time but it saved me several thousand so thought it was worth it! Good luck

I just bought a car. My brother in law (who used to sell cars) helped me do the research. He found what my trade in was worth on KBB.com, then searched to see what was a 'fair' dealer price for the car I wanted so he had a figure in mind when he was wheeling and dealing for me. ;)

The day we went to look at the one I wanted, he printed off comparable cars (same make/model, mileage and extras) at nearby dealerships. When we were haggling and they didn't want to come down, he pulled those out and said 'that's fine, I'm sure they'll trade with us down there.' Suddenly, the finance manager was making calls to 'see what he could do.' It was a thing of beauty. :lol: My brother in law rules!

Edited to say: so yes, those sites are VERY helpful, Agent. :):thumbs:

Are you looking for new or used?

I'm in the market for a new car right now, and I definitely find these very useful -- especially if you want to avoid a typical dealership experiences with the sale guy, sales manager, and F&I manager pouncing on you.

I'd recommend you start at www.edmunds.com -- they have a tool they call "True Market Value" price, and also give you MSRP and invoice. I used their "get a quote" tool, and I'm getting quotes below TMV price.

A lot of dealerships have internet/fleet departments that would give you a a quote upfront (and a good one) without haggling. That's the way to go.

I've also used KBB, cars.com, autobytel.com -- different sites have different dealerships affiliated with them, so you get more options.

I've tried it for a new car though, don't know if it works as well for a used car.

12-08-2005 Biometrics for AOS and EAD. Having no EAD appt letter was no problem (used EAD NOA)

12-15-2005 EAD arrived in the mail

12-24-2005 Received interview letter; interview scheduled 03-01-2006

01-28-2006 Received replacement SSN card in married name (5 wks since application)

03-01-2006 AOS interview -- approved; received stamp in the passport

We bought my wife's car through a delaer who was one of the mulitple dealers responding to our qoute request via edmunds.com. It was a very pleasent experience. It was all through email and and I easily compared the the quotes, ie oranges vs oranges. Selected the dealer with the best deal, wlaked in, asked for the manager whom I had corresponding with and off we went. No haggling on the price. even after the mdel was upgraded because they did not have the original base car we were looking for.

New or CPO. I was thinking of looking at the used cars from Enterprise but the wife nixed the idea. Something about it not "feeling" right.

I'm glad you had a good experience. How much above invoice did you end up paying (percentage)?

And can you tell me what your rationale was for opting to buy a new car?
