How safe is it?

Morning all,

I know it's been said many many times not to buy tickets before the interview is over......my fiance and i have been looking for tickets and each day the prices go up the sky and less and less seats are available to come here ( by end of june) so we have found tickets that are about $150 extra but they are refundable ( minus $100 for that if you need to cancel them) So all of the other airlines don't have any cancellations policy and this one has it. How safe is it to buy tickets now before the interview? If something goes wrong at the interview ( god forbid) then we can cancel them and they'll only charge $100. Should we risk it? Or are we jinxing ourselves by buying those tickets ahead of time?

Thanks

I don't believe in jinxes but you are definitely taking a risk if you buy non-refundable tickets before the visa is actually issued. Given the horror stories around here, you can't assume that he'll get the visa until it's actually in his hand.

If you're happy to throw that money away if something bad should happen, then go for it.

The $150 extra for the ticket is refundable for $100. Just only debating whether or not to buy ir to wait. I know that it'll be way more expensive later on in June.

Well it wasn't really a popcorn eating question truley. I just was curious about the process that they go through since I don't really hear much about them. (F)

If you look at VJ as a whole, the majority don't have long AR/AP. Although Israel is in the Mid East, her fiance isn't Arab or Muslim so that does make a difference.

I don't think buying the tickets would be necessarily jinxing it. Would they charge you the $100 if you change the flight? If you could save a few hundred bucks then I'd go for it.

Just a guess...I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that the Israelis have an easier time than the rest of the people in the Middle East.

Yeah I just looked at the timelines for Israel but it's difficult to tell if you're ok with buying the ticket or not. The few that actually completed their timeline got the visa about 5 days after the interview. Not sure if the rest got it immediately or not. I guess if the price hike is less than the amount it would cost to change the date then I say go for it!

You are absolutely right. :)

Anything can happen and he can go on AR/AP but just like it's being mentioned he's not a Muslim or Arab and that's why it may be different. I don't mean to sound prejudice but I just don't think he stands a high chance of name check.

I just came back from ISrael and few people on the plane told me that it took them about 5 days to get their passport back. So I guess there was no AR/AP.

If we want to change the flight it's $50

To cancel it it's only $100

I can buy the same ticket for $550 BUT that price does not include cancelation fee.

Yeah...I don't think anyone here actually believes that there's not racial/religious profiling going on. It's no coincidence that most of the people in AP/AR hell are married to/trying to marry Muslim men from the Middle East.

Yes, Israelis get the visa at the interview. They can do DCF too. I haven't heard of a

single Israeli (and I do have many Israeli friends) put on A/R.

Palestinians are a different story, but they do not go through the Embassy in Tel-Aviv.

The Tel Aviv site says that there is no more DCF, if there was we would do it when i was there 2 weeks ago.

And we called the embassy and they said it takes about 10 business days maximum to get your passport, so it is not issued on the spot.

He probably means the visa is approved at the interview instead of delayed by months of administrative hell.

You don't sound predjudiced at all. That is just the way things are. If it's only gonna cost you $50 to change the flight I would go ahead and buy it. I would, however, give a week or two between the interview and the flight.
