I remember the excitement of P3/P4 and the interview stage.

Now I'm just waiting to submit my wife's ROC paperwork in September. My life has become so boring! 🤣

Thanks very much Narak..........yeah, the AOS does not bother me as much as the visa.  She had been rejected twice for tourist visas, so she was a bit nervous about the approval.  and now that she has a visa, she will be able to come to the US so we can wait for the AOS together.   Did you guys do any travel outside of the country while awaiting the GC??   I'm assuming that's pretty simple with the I-131 ?

We didn't do any travel outside the country until she had her EAD/AP combo card. Be sure to apply for it when you do the I-485 as it's included in the cost when you apply in a single package.

Many thanks for the heads up.  Seems I recall reading that somewhere.   We will do that, even though she does not plan on working........good to have the option.

Now according to this site, you apply for the I-131 along with the I-765?   So you submit both of those with the I-465 to get the combo card??

Consider the I-485, I-131, and I-765 to be three distinct applications that all happen to be mailed off together in the same envelope.  USCIS will route each to where it has to go.  If you apply for the I-131 and I-765 together and at the same time as applying for the I-485, there is no extra fee, and she will receive the combo card.

After she has the combo card and you begin to make travel plans, remember that she as a Thai citizen might have to obtain a visa to visit certain other countries.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Great info TBone....many thanks.  Hey, with that combo card, is that like a multiple entry / exit document so she can basically exit and enter as often as we like?    It would probably just be to Thailand or maybe a cruise somewhere, and would absolutely check on the country visa requirements for Thai citizen.

HA!    Yessir................that's just a huge relief.   Particularly since her last two visits to the embassy resulted in denials.   (travel visa)

You're very welcome.  Your posts here are so helpful that I wanted to try to return your many favors to others.

The Advance Parole (travel document) used to be paper, checked off as valid for single or multiple entries.

I presume that the combo card is valid for multiple entries (why wouldn't it be, I wonder?).

Cruises can be a (looking for right term) headache, boondoggle, sticky wicket, what with multiple countries.

Thankfully, the visa that really counted for her was approved!

My contemporaries and I all got hosed by the rogue Guayaquil consulate 10+ years ago.

If you ever want to count your blessings, read the first 4 or 5 pages of this first thread, and shudder at the second thread:

All the marriages except for one are still together (take THAT, consulate!).
