2019 J1 WAIVER TIMELINE - New Applicants

Hello All,

I applied J1 waiver on Jan. 4th with "No Objection Statement" and got a favorable recommendation letter from DOS. USCIS Vermont office received my case on April 10 but I didn't get the approval letter yet. I called to USCIS many times, but always they told me that my case is still pending and it's in normal processing time (4 weeks to 6 months?). It looks approval is usually not updated in website on time. (My wife applied waiver last December and got her approval letter on Feb. 22, but in website her case shows still pending status now.

I'm panic now because my j1 will be expire end of this month.

Is there any way to directly contact Vermont office or is there another way to know real-time status?

Please help me...

Hey If you go to USCIS center (webpage) -> under TOOLs ->> ask about my case ->> there's an option of "case outside normal processing times", maybe you can send them a email. As I was calling them because I haven't received my receipt number, they told me if you create an account and send them a secure email the Tier 2 "immigration agents" are going to get it instead of tier 1 (which is live chat and the call center people). Hopefully this helps...

I'm also waiting and my program already started. Best of luck!!

Thank you! This is good information for me.

I have tried to send them a secure email, but unfortunately they show me a message when I tried to submit "this case is in normal processing time so I cannot create the inquiry".

Have you though of asking for an expedite?

May I ask how long did they take to give you your receipt number?

I have received my receipt number in a week. I'm not sure what's happening to you. I tried to reach to USCIS through the option " Did not receive notice by mail" and I was able to send a message to them.

You can try this way if you did not receive receipt notice yet.

If you ever feel discouraged  just remember that it took me almost two years to receive my no objection letter and another 10 weeks for my fav recommendation and this was a straight forward case no government funding ...subjected based on skills list

Congrats!!!

Wow!! I waited 6 months for my NOS and I thought that was long. Ten weeks not bad for a favourable response, I am at my sixth week and still waiting.

All the best, I hope your process so above the speed limit now.
