K 1 visa and I-134 Question 38 and confusing array of answers

I've seen many answers and opinions about how to answer question 38 of the Affidavit of Support, and that's what is so confusing. I realize that it doesn't really pertain to the K-1 visa, but am still unsure of whether I should check "intend to make specific contributions", "do not intend... " or leave it alone. It also seems, going by what I've read, that different consulates prefer different answers on this (the London consulate gave someone a hard time for checking "do not intend". I wonder if anyone can share their experience with this at the Sydney consulate? Thanks!

I followed the example on VJ and didn't check either box. However, attached below is what I put in the Additional Info section at the end of the form:

Thanks! I've seen this advice, too. I think it's what I'll do as well. Good luck with your interview!!!

What did you end up putting Jodi? We're just filling this in now - we were thinking of ticking the 'intend to make specific contributions' box because Andrew technically will be supporting me while I'm unable to work and waiting for my employment permit. It's all so confusing!

I didn't check either. I took @Ethan & Shannon's advice and left the boxes unchecked.  In section 7, "Additional Information" I put Page 4, Part 3, Item 38, and then typed in "N/A (K1 Visa Process For Permanent Residence)". That question is not relevant to the K1 Visa. It asks about "specific contributions", which would mean paying for specific expenses, not generally supporting someone. All this is such fun, isn't it! 😛

Thanks for that, I think we’ll do the same! 🙂

Hello,

Did any of you submit statements from bank officials verifying your account, deposits etc., as supporting evidence?

I plan on only including my 2018 US Tax Returns.

I did include bank statements, mostly because part of my income consists of Social Security payments, and they are not included in my total income on my tax return. Even though I was able to provide a letter from Social Security, verifying the payments, the statements show that the money is deposited into my account each month. I thought it would be good supporting evidence. I wasn't able to get a letter from my bank officials. When I asked for one, no one seemed to understand what I was asking for. They all looked baffled over what I thought was a simple question. Anyway, we were approved, got the visa, and are now married - so what we did worked! Best of luck to you!

I gave my (then) fiance copies of my retirement and investment account statements to send in with the tax transcripts for packet 4.  Nothing was referenced during the interview.

Thank you, Jorgedig and Joyoussinger!

Yes, this is what I was reading around the forum. I am currently living in NZ on a working holiday visa. There is no way for me to even get theses from my banks.
