I was just curious about how long it takes(generally) from when the Moscow embassy gets the case to the interview date?

I did look at the flow chart but I know these things are region specific

Thanks in advance.

On average it takes anywhere from 6 weeks to 2 months. Usually within a few days after they receive your paperwork, your case number will appear on this website: http://www.usembassy.ru/consular/iv_dates.php

Well, interviews are generally running 2 months from when the embassy receives the case. The question is just when does Moscow 'receive' the case. My case left NVC on the 11th and I am yet to get an interview date. Is my case sitting at the embassy now waiting to be 'received'? I dunno. Maybe it really does take 2 to 4 weeks for the case to physically arrive at the embassy...

My case took exactly 4 weeks to get from the NVC to the Embassy. It left the NVC on 3/1/07 and arrived at the Embassy on 3/29/07. I was a little annoyed at how long it took because I was expecting it to be about 2 weeks tops.

I remember I kept thinking if I knew the damn thing was going to take a month to get to Moscow, I would have preferred to drive to NH myself to pick up the envelope, and sent it FedEx to the Embassy! (Too bad you can't actually do that.)

Well, I hope we get an interview date sooner rather than later. But we've waited this long, what's a couple more weeks...

The US Embassy in Moscow posts interview dates by the application number weekly (The MSC numbers are generated by the date they were recieved). By watching this this, you can get an idea about how long it will be. Generally, it is best to plan on 3 months. In my case, July 9th -> Oct 17 interview.

You can figure about three months from when it leaves NVC. It may be sooner, it may be later, but three months is about where it's going to be. (+ or - a few weeks/months/years/etc.... this isn't a science.)

I doubt that they send a package every day. It takes about a week for DHL to reach Russia when they are sent. So - that is 2 weeks +.

I was told by NVC that the case has left for Moscow and they use DHL for shipping it to embassy.

Wonder why would it take multiple weeks to reach embassy?

Actually what I was told by NVC is that these packages are sent to NJ first to wait for a full container going overseas. The government doesnt use DHL they use military transports and cargo planes. So the package travels to NJ and waits in an APO depot, then when there are enough things to go they load them in a huge plane, it stops in several countries on its way to Moscow, drops packages and letters and other things all over the world(Kind of like Santa but more than one night a year). When it reaches Moscow it goes to a very special place in the customs department to make sure that everything is okey dokey. Then it makes its way to the basement of the embassy, where some guy got a job overseas because his father played golf with some congressman 20 years ago and was told to go work for the feds, good pay, great benefits, and keeps you out of the military. This poor shlub hates his job so he doesnt do it very well but eventually your package gets sent upstairs where it gets stamped and dated for the interview. Finally you are notified and you wonder if they sent it carrier pigeon it would go faster.

The State Dept. sets the interview date not the embassy(why I dont know). You can call 202-663-1225 to get your interview date. You will need your NVC case number. The Embassy website is supposed to update every monday at 8am (Moscow time) but it doesnt, at least when I was waiting for our date via the website it did not update for 2 weeks (updated on a wednesday). The embassy falls under the State Dept. So, even if it is the State Dept. doing it, it may be the State Dept. at the embassy doing it.

Either way, does it really matter if you find out on Monday morning or Friday afternoon? There's going to be a good month or so (minimum) between when you find out and when the interview date is, and really, there's nothing you can do except wait.

I know it's exciting, and there is a lot of planning to go into how to get your sweety here, when to wed, etc., but, trust me.... you're going to have more than enough time to get everything done, and the sooner you get it done, the more time you have to worry about it between then and the interview.

Relax. Slow down a little and pace yourselves. You have a few months to wait, don't try to hurry through them, you'll just drive yourself crazy!

Exactly this is step one and there are a whole lot more steps to go. Just relax, do some reading on VJ, post a little, make a pizza, or eggs and bacon with toast and butter(god I hate this diet), write your congressman and congratulate on the wonderful job of getting that immigration bill passed that way we can build a fence, a moat, get a dragon or whatever they think we need to close our borders. It never occurred to any of these people that if they made legal immigration more simple it would cut down on illegal immigration.
