We seriously should make an effort for some kind of meet up when Alex + Rey travel through here.

Any ideas about a restaurant and location where we could all meet?

Yeah right, like that's gonna happen.

Do I detect a little jealousy? ;)

Mark - you're invited too if you want to fly over here!

No jealousy, Steven. She's just saying it now, but when the times comes, she'll chicken out, as usual.

Oh whatever. I was busy and I had 3 days! And the night we were gonna call you my friend's grandpa died! We have plenty of time to hang out after August.

My wife and I did this two years ago.

To get the most out of the drive, stay in Monterey the night before you head south & hope the weather is clear. Take your time, stop a lot, take pictures (especially of the Bixby bridge). Stay in Cambria the next night, which is the first real place to stay after the Big Sur drive.

Hm, ok...

So in everyone's opinions, are these the best places to stay? We leave SF on the 11th and arrive in SD on the 15th. Where should the 3 nights inbetween be? (I figure the 14th might be LA)

When you're in Monterey, go to the Monterey Bay Aquarium to check out the jelly fish.

Smoke some pot before you go.

I would spend the 12th in Monterey - there's a Best Western on the beach though you have to get in your car to get to the centre of town, if that matters.

It will only take about a half day to get there from SF, but you want to spend the afternoon poking around there and Carmel. And you really must do the 17 mile drive at sunset.

Then spend a whole day driving along the Big Sur - I don't know where you should stay before you leave tha tarea, but I'd allow a day for Hearst Castle (if you were interested ) or a whole day for Santa Barbara - probably spend night 3 there.

Monterey, Big Sur driving the Scenic PCH , be prepared for a long slow drive , it is well worth it.

Also don't miss Carmel or Hearst Castle. There is a beach just outside of Monterey full of Elephant Seals,

A few Lighthouses along the way and of course South of Santa Barbara is Carpenteria, a nice quaint little beach town, excellent stop for Lunch or breakfast , peaceful beach side town.

Southern Ca. South of Dana Point be sure to drive through San Clemente and eat at the Fisherman resturaunt, A great seafood resturaunt right on the pier over looking a quiet beuatiful stretch of Beach.

Of course La jolla & Birch Aquarium are not to be missed.

and cafe brazil is right across from the Brazilian mall!

Did you know Brazilians make up the fourth largest ethnic group in LA? That's what they tell me anyway - I guess Mexicans, Koreans and Chinese would be 1-3.

I had no idea Culver City was so Brazilian! I live right by all that. ;)
