grr I never buy stuff like that. I bought one blazer that says dry clean and I know I have to take it to the dry cleaner, but it's a blazer, I can wear lots of times and then have it washed. tops, blouses, I always wear only once and then wash. I can't believe I missed that.

Btw, when I asked Charles he told me to ask here ... all he knows about laundry is the amount of detergent to put in the machine :P

That's important to know, though. You should see what happens when my dad tries to do the laundry. It makes my poor mom cry.

My husband uses twice as much detergent as you really need to. I would much rather he stay away from the laundry and stick to washing dishes although he overuses the water when he does dishes but at least the cost is included in the rent....lol

Me personally? I wouldn't wash it. I'd just bring it to the drycleaner.

And I'd be sure it was a drycleaner that was good. I once saw this store...$1.99 per item. I fig'd 'what the hell?' so I brought like 10 things at once (stupid move, I know)....I totally forgot about the clothes & about a month later was passing by so I went in. I didn't have my ticket, but I remembered the amt of items I brought. They gave me back 9.

After ages of fighting that I was missing something, and the counter clerk actually allowing me to go thru the racks (like #######????), she gets on the phone with the mgr, she's all quietly talking to him and then says to me

'Miss? your shirt...go BOOM!'

 like #######? how can a shirt go boom? I get on the phone with the mgr and he proceeds to tell me they had a fire, yadda yadda yadda...long story short (too late!)...my shirt went effing boom.

Moral of the tale: take it to a good cleaner if ya don't want it going boom.

My husband can just about manage to wash clothes but he can't hang them up properly. I don't even try to get him to wash dishes properly anymore; we have a dishwasher and I put everything that he has "washed" in the dishwasher since it is always spotty, sticky, greasy, or otherwise unclean. His mom is just as bad.

I have hand washed silk blouses and dresses as well. Cold water, washing detergent for delicate items and not a lot rinse well and don't wring but squeeze the water out then hang to dry or lay flat to dry on an absorbent towel.

I bought a 100% silk blouse and just now I noticed it says ''dry clean only''

It's the only top I have that says that and I don't feel like taking my time and pay to have it washed everytime I wear. Any advice on how I can wash it at home?

Hmm, I have the same problem with my silk shirts. Sometimes I just hand wash

them with mild soap and lukewarm water, or machine wash in warm water on

gentle cycle. No side-effects so far (but all of them are washable silk.)

Do what I do with dry-clean only things. Leave it in the laundry for about a year, then get it dry-cleaned because you really, really want to wear it. Wear it. Then leave it for another year or so... ahh, at least it'll never get worn out.
