I bought a 100% silk blouse and just now I noticed it says ''dry clean only''

It's the only top I have that says that and I don't feel like taking my time and pay to have it washed everytime I wear. Any advice on how I can wash it at home?

DO NOT try to wash 100% silk unless it specifically says washable silk. I haven't had much success with the home dry cleaning kits, but that would be an option.... your only option as far as I know....

grr I never buy stuff like that. I bought one blazer that says dry clean and I know I have to take it to the dry cleaner, but it's a blazer, I can wear lots of times and then have it washed. tops, blouses, I always wear only once and then wash. I can't believe I missed that.

Btw, when I asked Charles he told me to ask here ... all he knows about laundry is the amount of detergent to put in the machine :P

That's important to know, though. You should see what happens when my dad tries to do the laundry. It makes my poor mom cry.

For some reason, I pictured a washboard, tub, and a bar of soap! Sorry Charles! I couldn't resist! :P

I've washed at home several things that the labels say dry clean only, including many silk things.

Especially with silk and wool, I do hand wash, COLD water, with mild detergent that is already solved in, preferably silk / wool / marseille soap. Don't soak, just wash quickly, rinse well, let dry.

If it has strong color, it may or may not be 100 % fast. Sizes don't alter with the wash. If it's a super fancy one, take it to dry cleaners. If it's otherwise a normal silk blouse, it's unlikely that you would manage to do any harm washing it by hand.
