What Age Gap Is Too Much For The Nigerian Embassy?

Hello friends. I am going to be the beneficiary(We have not yet filed) and I am a lady. My fiance who is a US citizen and the petitioner is 10 years older than me. I know it would probably be a 'redder flag' if I was a Nigerian male about to marry an older woman but reverse is the case and it is normal in the Nigerian culture for the man to be older.

Still, I would love to get answers from y'all. Is 10 years age gap too much for a USC male filing a K1 visa for a Nigerian female.

Thank you

It’s not only about the age.

How is many times have you guys seen each other and for how long? And so on are just as important as just the age.

We have seen each other twice and we planning another trip before we file. We are fine with the rest, we just want to know about the age difference.

I wouldn’t be too worried about it if all other evidence are good.

You have nothing to worry about. USCIS approved us with the same age gap. My USC (man) is 10 years older than me and I think it won't be a problem either at the embassy stage because it's a common thing in our culture and the VOs know this.

I’ve never come across age proximity requirements. It’s all about it proving a bonafide relationship. Details, details and more details. Give them as much proof as you can gather. Good luck!

I hope not. I am 19 years older than my wife. We did do our traditional and paid the bride price on our last trip so I hope that helps.

You have nothing to worry about. My husband is the US citizen and he's 24 years older than me. We had 0 issues and no mention of the age gap throughout the process. I am now in the US and have filed for AOS

UK and Nigeria are leagues apart for cultural considerations when it comes to age gaps.

That said, my understanding is that the male being older by that amount is not a red flag with Nigeria. Had it been the other away around, then that would be a red flag likely resulting in greater scrutiny.

Anyway, the point is that age gaps in general must be viewed through the lens of the cultures involved. What applies to one individual does not necessarily apply to another due to difference circumstances. :)
