Communism and Socialism are very closely related.  Both involve excessive government control.  Communism is more of a collectivist political ideology and Socialism is more of an economic ideology.  When a government imposes Socialism on its population if the effort to "equalize" everyone (except for the leadership class of course) and further takes control of the economic capital then Socialism morphs into Communism.

I hadn't got a clue about tax bands when I left school, not a mention of it in the classroom neither. Just to make sure it's not because I'm an old git with an old education I asked my daughter's. One is in her first year of college and she learned nothing about tax bands in school. Another of my daughter's gets lost when she looks at her pay slip, she also learned nothing about tax bands in school.

If the intention is to tax the rich then why is Bill Gates saying the top 400 earners currently only pay about 20% income tax. Surely it would require a more targeted taxation plan on assets rather than income. I'm guessing this 70% rate won't catch the mega rich it will get those in categories below whose money is income based rather than in assets.

Yeah, same here.  I knew I paid taxes, but it wasn't until after college and doing my own taxes for some time before I became fully aware how it all.works.  

 

They don't even teach kids how to balance a checkbook in high school, so I doubt taxation is much discussed.

My father use to tell me it was the truely wealthy that made this country great.  The Fords, Rockefellers, Carnegies, Flagers did things the government could never do.

 

I see evidence of it all the time here in the FL Keys.  The overseas highway to Key West was Henry Flaglers project, as a rail line, over 100 years ago.

The radical left (Maybe not everyone on the left) has this belief that all millionaires either inherited their money or did something evil to get it. That couldn't be further from the truth. A vast majority of millionaires today are first generation millionaires. Its all based in envy and jealously. I also find it very hypocritical when people like Warren Buffett and Bill Gates say they think they aren't taxed enough so we need to raise taxes (of course with loopholes built in to protect their money). I say to them put your money where your mouth is and voluntarily pay more taxes then. The IRS actually has a process in place to allow people to pay more taxes than they legally owe. So let's see you practice what you preach Warren and Bill.

The ultra rich, as in the .0001% or .00000001% usually don’t have much income, so pay less income tax.  Rather, they have accrued assets or property, which elevates their personal worth and is either untaxed or taxed much lower.  Or they own stock/shares in the company.  Once you start making money in the higher margins, you quickly learn that you have to do something to shelter it, or else you lose it to Uncle Sugar.
