You will find plenty of posts on here regarding Parents applying for Tourist visa's.

They apply, you do not, you are not sponsoring them to immigrate.

She has 2 other kids in Indonesia (both minor age), have her own house, pension from my deceased dad which if she leaves more than 3 months, the government will put on hold and she is also director for non profit organization. I start to think that we need to apply her visa in different consulate or even different country such as Singapore or Malaysia. Just a thought...

Hi Disyalam,

I am not experiencing for applying visa for parents. But I agreed with above statement that tourist visa didn’t require sponsorship but have to proof strong ties to return back to Indonesia.

Provide statement from the NGO she work for that she is working as Director (your #8) and itinerary (plan to go and return), also last 3 months salary slip. You can also provide copy of properties she has. Prove that she traveled overseas other than Asia would be advantages. Applying in other country if she is residing in Indonesia, I don’t think it would be possible (cmiiw).

I am Indonesian, applied tourist visa in Malaysia back in 2016 and granted, but i was working in Malaysia that time.

Goodluck!😀

Thank you! I really want to know how to make the officer look at the documents because last time he did not even bother to ask for it! (while my mom has it on her hand) 😟

It’s also depend on the DS160 form she filled. At the interview they will ask her passport, CO will check if she has traveled before or not. Here is sample from my previous questions asked by the CO for your references:

1) why u want to visit US and why now

2) have u gone to US before

3) which state you going

4) for how long

5) where will you stay

6) which tourist place

7) who pay the trip

8) whats ur work

9) how long with this company

10) hw much annual salary

11) have u travelled to other countries before

12) married?

13) any friends or relative in us

1. Normally people apply for themeslves

2. I have applied for myself (4 times), filled in spouse’s application (twice) and kids (twice), the last time for all of us while we had an immigrant petition pending yet we were still successful getting tourist visa

3. So I can tell you your angry/sarcastic response to missileman seems to miss the point that he is correct - most of what you had listed shows ties to US, not home country, and makes denial more likely

4. We got our last tourist visas while immigrant visa pending by being able to show ties to home, we did not show any of the kind documents from our US sponsor (my father) that you seem to want to show

5. Consulate shopping is a great way to get a huge red mark on the record. Imagine the conversation :

CO: so, what are you doing in Singapore (or wherever), why are you applying here

your parent: i just came here to apply for the visa because my child thinks better chance after previous denial

thud

i know you are upset about the denial but getting angry and sarcastic at people giving you good advice doesn’t

help

and no you can’t force anyone to look at documents, the main information is on the application form, they don’t have to look at anything else if they don’t think it’s necessary to a decision

Well, I am not angry/sarcastic per say. I would be nice and understanding if they do not start the fire. Simple answer like, hey, that would not work, I simply will not reply and noted to myself.

Anyway, I like your answer. It tells me that event hough you intend to immigrate, they still grant you tourist visa. Good on you and wish you all the best!

My mom is not good in english and she tried so hard to answer in English last time. I wonder if the officer in Indonesia allow the questions answered in Indonesian...well, this is just my thought 😊

You are welcome.

Make sure you help her to recheck all paperwork and info in the DS160 form (I am sure you do).

Also prepare and practice for the interview. You can call your mom and do practice as if you are CO and she is the applicant (my sister helped me a lot thru phone to practice last time lol). Not sure if she can answer in Indonesian🤗

Also travel record is one of thing may be considered by CO. If she traveled overseas before, showed that she can afford the expenses.

It would be better for her to answer questions in a language she is comfortable in.  Most likely she can have the interview not in English.

I think you misread me.  She should ask to have the questions in Indonesian instead of English.

Thank you again

I might want to add something more. Show that your mother has travelled to European countries or Australia and didn't overstay.  More travel to these countries, the better. It builds credential on her part that she has strong ties to Indonesia and doesn't try to immigrate.

Proof of house ownership can help but she can sell the house and move to the US after she gets her visa, she can quit her job in indonesia for a "better" job in the US, minor kids,  many people leave them to be taken care of by family members while the parents overstay in the US and look for jobs under table and send the money back to indonesia. Not to mention now she has a daughter who is a USC who will support her while she's in the US and she has a chance to adjust status as an LPR through you once she enters the country. Why bother to come home? Don't shoot the messenger but this practice happens and few Indonesians did that in the past. That's why new applicants must pay the price. If she can't get the visa to visit you, you can always visit her in Indonesia

I don't think you understand how tourist visa applications work.  SHE needs to apply for the visa, on her own.  The idea that you are applying for her is a big red flag that she may have immigrant intent.  She will have to file the application in her home country, showing on the application strong ties to her country.  Having relatives in the US is already a big red flag for the IO, assuming immigrant intent, so to overcome that her ties to her home country will have to be stronger than others.  Unless she can change that it may be difficult or impossible for her to get a tourist visa to visit the US.  You can go and visit her.
