Sorry, the expiration date on the I-94 is actually 3/31/2019.

Go to a different office. Lithuanians here.
It's available immediately. We went next morning, got card in 4 weeks (that includes Christmas, NYE). They will have to manually check the information and it takes anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks. You have everything you need, it's up to the officer basically whether he's going to be lazy and tell you to comeback again, hoping someone else will take you, or he'll do what he's supposed to.

You have to have atleast 3 weeks on i-94 left, Passport with K1 entry, SS-5 filled out (legal alien ALLOWED to work) and that's it. if You got married before you went to SSO, then you're out of luck and gotta wait for EAD.

Thanks for the info.

We returned to the SSA office today, it was our 3rd trip there. We waited the ten business days that they suggested, but it still did not help us. We got the same lady, who had the same excuses as before. She doesn't know why she cannot find my fiancee in the system and isn't really sure why.

Her plan was to verify us manually, and submit that paperwork in another ten days, if we do not appear in the DHS system by then. My concern is that we will apply for EAD and there are questions on there about "Do you have an SSN already?" and I think it will cause us much problem in the future, if we attempt both.

On the EAD application, it says you can use it to apply for SSN but the lady said that normally doesn't work and we will need to bring in our EAD card to apply for SSN.

Also, we did get married on March 3rd, so it seems we are "out of luck" anyways, as you mentioned.

This is such a headache because we need to get her on my insurance, bank account and drivers license, etc. The lady at the SSA office gave us a "denial letter", that states we tried to get the SSN but couldn't. She says it should be good enough to enroll in health insurance, etc. but I really have my doubts about that too.

I still cannot understand why all these other Russian K1 visas have no problem getting SSN, but we seem to have such trouble. It's really frustrating and wasting our time.

So now we need to file EAD immediately, and AOS, which totals about $1600. FML.

Some officers have no idea about K-1 and how to proceed with it, so to avoid extra work, they just try to play it off. Usually going to a different office gives better results.

Your only option is to do that thru EAD now..

Driver's licence thing is INSANE and drives me nuts, i contacted representative of my district to let him know what is happening. I doubt they will take any action, but letting them know is better than not. She's legally here, fulfilled her requirements, but still gotta wait for insane amount of time just to get drivers' licence, because USCIS is too busy. urgh.

EAD+AP if filed with AOS is free, so you gotta pay only for AoS which is 1225$ if im not mistaken, unless they changed that.

i won't say be patient and it'll get better, cause it won't make you feel better, but i'll say that you're not alone.

You should have let her manually verify you then. Now it's probably too late.

Her plan was to verify us manually, and submit that paperwork in another ten days, if we do not appear in the DHS system by then. You can still apply on the I765. Just state you have no number but did apply in person and don't know if you were successful yet. You can easily explain this in an additional information section relating to the SSN questions. They arent going to issue you two numbers. They will check if your name has been registered for one by using your parents names as a reference.

On the EAD application, it says you can use it to apply for SSN but the lady said that normally doesn't work and we will need to bring in our EAD card to apply for SSN.

She's full of sh_t. You have a great chance of getting it if you apply on the I765. And if you dont it's an easy fix to go in again with your EAD in your married name.

Also, we did get married on March 3rd, so it seems we are "out of luck" anyways, as you mentioned.

You could have not mentioned you married and applied in your maiden name. Your error was trying to apply in your married name because of course, the names wont match what DHS has on record for you.

This is such a headache because we need to get her on my insurance, bank account and drivers license, etc. The lady at the SSA office gave us a "denial letter", that states we tried to get the SSN but couldn't. You can try. Some HI's will just require you to update the SSN when you get it.

I still cannot understand why all these other Russian K1 visas have no problem getting SSN, but we seem to have such trouble. It's really frustrating and wasting our time.

It has nothing to do with fellow filers. Its about the agent you visited (you should have visited another office) not knowing how to process it. Manual verification is not a bad thing. You should have allowed them to do that when you applied within 14 days of arrival.

So now we need to file EAD immediately, and AOS, which totals about $1600. FML.

I485 is $1225. EAD and AP are free of you file I485 concurrently.
