Hi. I just got my I-134 Affidavit of Support notarizes at my bank and the notary had a problem with the "Signature of Administrating Oath" line under the Oath or Administering of Oath section on the form. The notary crossed these words out (Signature of Administrating Oath) and then preceded to sign the paper anyway. She said that she was not spearing anyone in and she was not verifying all my information was correct. She said she was only verifying my signature was correct. So she said she needed to cross this part out because she did not verify all my information was correct.

Was the notary correct and is this okey if I mail the I-134 Affidavit of Support with this part crossed out even though the notary preceded to sign, date, and stamp the form anyway? This just didn't set well with me and I was wondering if anyone had any advice? Thanks.

I am a notary, and she should not have crossed out those words. Swearing in an Oath is standard operating procedure for Notaries.

Not all read the "how to do your job" book and she might not have known what the words meant.

A notary public is an officer who can administer oaths and statutory declarations, witness and authenticate documents and perform certain other acts varying from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. Generally speaking, a notary public in the United States of America has powers that are far more limited than the role of a civil law notary in the rest of the world, with the exception of Louisiana. For the purposes of authentication, most countries require commercial or personal documents which originate from or are signed in another country to be notarized before they can be used or officially recorded or before they can have any legal effect.

Sounds like you need to find another Notary
