she doesn't know either and non of her documents have date and month. her official identity card also shows only her year.

in this case should I've to write 1/1/1953

This is the first time you've said she doesn't know or have a day she celebrates it on.  If her culture celebrates that day at all.  I do understand many cultures do not.

If there is a day she would not prefer then yes, you can write 1/1 as day, month.

What did you put for your spouse's mother's birthday on the I-130a, did you use 01/01/1953 for that? Use the birth date for her that you put on the I-130a

Good point. The I-130a did ask this first.

Just use the birthday you provided on that.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the DS260 the same for everyone ? If so, on mine I have the option to select *Do not know* next to either the mother or father's DOB. I think it's safer to check this rather than throwing a random DOB on the form. Also, check your spouse's birth certificate, some foreign countries put this information on the child's BC or ask other family members, I mean SOMEONE had to celebrate or at least said Happy Birthday at one point in her life.

Good Luck!

Some cultures simply do not celebrate birthdays like we do.
