But I guess that's somewhat my point.. there seems to be more ethical attachment to eggs vs. sperm.. i dunno.. maybe i'm overthinking.. but is it easier / more acceptable for guys to donate than gals?

Even if you did not give birth you would still have a part of you out there somewhere in the world. Too, I do not know about privacy issues,but what if the child tracked you down one day wanting to meet you? You never know and I would think long and hard before agreeing to that.

Oh you have to know me - i'm a disturber.. so i just say things to get hubby going.. I'm not saying that I would or wouldn't do it.. i really just wanted get a snapshot of where others are at.

What you said is exactly what hubby said.. (he has biological children).. but the truth is i'm not sure that's where i'd be at.. It's not like adoption in that sence IMO.

I dunno... I guess i'm not the motherly type.. don't have that instinct in me for some reason.. I just see it on par as blood or marrow... which horrifies Hubby.. and I guess i need to check out my world view.. And i just know so many parents who LONG to have their own children.. makes me sad that I have parts that could make someone else so happy..

For people who have beliefs that are against this type of donation.. what are they and why do you think this way?

well that's just it exactly.. I'm looking for all kinds of logic.. that's as good as any! Where do you draw the line on donations? I don't think anyone would think twice about donating blood.. that's important.. and responsible! but.. where's that line?

After seeing a friend of mine donate her eggs I personally would never do it because of the side effects from the medication you have to take before the eggs are harvested. Normally the doctors will only harvest a certain number of eggs so the meds you take make you pump out extra eggs each month. My friend also gained a lot of weight and said she felt like she was having massive PMS for months. Plus, I would always wonder how many of my eggs actually were fertilized and if I had any kids out there running around.

I'd do it, have even thought that the money is awesome, but I haven't had my kids yet and they don't usually take women who hasn't had kids before, since there are a certain risk involved, or they want to see if I have a kid with a defect first, who knows.

But I'd definitly do it. As for people saying of being a mother of unknown babies out there, oh well, I think that even with my egg, it'd be a baby grown in another woman, born to a different woman, and raised by her, to me that means it's her kid, not mine, at all. It's not even my husband's sperm anyway.

Hmmm...it's something that never really crossed my mind during my "younger" days. Of course now it's too late for me as I'm out of eggs. But, even if I still had the eggs to donate, I'm not sure I can donate it to just anyone. I would probably consider donating it to a family member (immediate or extended) who cannot have children but really want one. I would want to know what kind of family my "child" would be brought into.
