So.. the other day we're listening to the local radio station and they have an advert on about Egg Donation. They said that upon successful completion of the procedure the donor would receive 8,000$ for the donation. It appears to be for insemination into other women for reproduction purposes (not some kind of scientific experimentation).... I was joking with hubby that .. heck! I'd give my left over bits for 8K (should note here I don't have children have no plans for kids).. He was horrified.. ;) But it got me thinking ..... would I ever consider it.. what would be the pros and cons...

Converse away!

I actually have considered it, the money sounded really good. But I think the requirements before they'll even accept your eggs are rigid and the process I believe is painful. In the end, I realized there was no way I would even get selected so I just said never mind.

If I was younger I would donate my eggs.... if it give a childless couple the chance to have a baby then I would be happy to help.... as long as my medical expences were covered I would not be looking for any additional payment.... but as I am well over 40 I am too old....

I would never consider it because of my personal beliefs.

8-30-05 Met David at a restaurant in Germany

3-28-06 David 'officially' proposed

4-26-06 I-129F mailed

9-25-06 Interview: APPROVED!

10-16-06 Flt to US, POE Detroit

11-5-06 Married

7-2-07 Green card received

9-12-08 Filed for divorce

12-5-08 Court hearing - divorce final

A great marriage is not when the "perfect couple" comes together.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

Emancipation,

Even if you did not give birth you would still have a part of you out there somewhere in the world. Too, I do not know about privacy issues, but what if the child tracked you down one day wanting to meet you? You never know and I would think long and hard before agreeing to that.

Oh you have to know me - i'm a disturber.. so i just say things to get hubby going.. I'm not saying that I would or wouldn't do it.. i really just wanted get a snapshot of where others are at.

What you said is exactly what hubby said.. (he has biological children).. but the truth is i'm not sure that's where i'd be at.. It's not like adoption in that sence IMO.

Sure I see your point. But still wouldn't you wonder just a little bit about that little part of you out there ?:)

I dunno... I guess i'm not the motherly type.. don't have that instinct in me for some reason.. I just see it on par as blood or marrow... which horrifies Hubby.. and I guess i need to check out my world view.. And i just know so many parents who LONG to have their own children.. makes me sad that I have parts that could make someone else so happy..

For people who have beliefs that are against this type of donation.. what are they and why do you think this way?

Oo I posted on this about 6 months ago... it must be in there somewhere. I considered it but ultimately decided not to. Since then I gained too much weight to do it, probably. :crying:

Oh I absolutely understand you there. My fiancé and I have discussed whether or not to have kids and my concern is always yes some kids are cute, but what happens when one has gotten on my nerves? My niece I can send her back home;however, my own child I cannot just "give back". So, I completely understand. Sometimes I feel bad because I have thoughts like that, but I believe that it is better to be honest with one's self instead of bringing a child into the world when one is not ready. I see too much of that already.

Yep... I guess i just think.. i don't have this burning desire to have children so I'm afraid to have them with my lack of enthusiasm/instinct. My husband has 2 adorable children who we plan on having with us for weeks/months at a time when they are older (still very young right now), and we've both been okay to this point say that we are not going to try for children of our own.

Well it sounds like you two have worked out a nice little plan for yourselves :)

Good Luck
