What is more common is to ask about work authorization and sponsorship requirements on the job application itself. Some employers may ask at the interview, but usually, if they care, the would have asked on the application form, and if they don't care (or just assume everyone is authorized to work) they won't ask at all. 

 

Running the e-verify process is not the same as asking about information that would be required for the e-verify process. Your name is required for I-9, too. They can ask, they just can't e-verify you without your knowledge or before you even got an offer.

2022-05-04: Interview is scheduled

2022-06-13: N-400 Interview

2022-06-13: Immediate oath & naturalization certificate!
