Hey guys. Hope all is well with all of you. I have a question. Kate is flying in tomorrow. I am planning to have her apply for SS asap but it might take some time to get the card. Is the SS required in order for me to obtain the marriage license? Planning to do it in the State of New York, but Pennsylvania is also an option. Ive read mixed information on this question. If someone knows please let me know.

Thank you.

So I was confused about this, too. After researching, it seems it's only required in some states but for those who already have one (i.e. the Citizen or permanent resident). Them being here on a K1 visa would exempt them from that as long as they have their passport on hand with the visa stamp.

Thank you for the responses guys. I called one of the marriage bureaus here in NYC and they said it’s fine if she doesn’t have a SS. As long as she has proper ID such as passport. 👍🏻

This topic about having a Social Security number to get married comes up a lot. I have yet to be made aware of any jurisdiction that requires the SS to receive a marriage license. If any one know of one, I sure would like to know more about their requirements.

I had my interview yesterday!!! And my visa was approved! I was so nervous waiting in a line, then the Consular asked me only 3 questions, so I couldn't realise that this part of the journey is over. I'm so happy right now!

You did it! Congratulations!

The interview lasted 3 minutes and it was like a coffee talk with a friend. 😂
