You can list any country but they will ignore it each and every time. Because you listed your Switzerland address they use it for the determination of the embassy. That's just how it works. You're not the first to discover this. Here is what you need to do. Be aware that this will take about 2-4 weeks to complete.

If you wish to have your immigrant/fiancée visa file transferred from one Embassy to another U.S. Embassy/Consulate, please contact the appropriate U.S. Embassy/Consulate directly in the country where you wish to apply and follow their instructions for case transfer. Please click here for the full list of all U.S. Embassies and Consulates overseas.

The old Embassy will need to receive a formal file transfer request from that U.S. Embassy/Consulate in the country where you wish to apply. Upon receipt of this request, they will immediately forward the file for the New Embassy to process.

Once you contact your New Embassy you then can discuss the transfer of your fee. Be sure to have your payment receipt available.

If your case goes from embassy to embassy then NO you don't get a new case number. The case number will began with original alpha nomenclature ie. AAAXXXXXXXXXX. If her case comes from NVC then you will have a case number starting with the embassy that you will interview in. To make your payment using your old embassy's case number you establish your profile with that case number then you link your payment to your profile.

Hi @Greenbaum
I did as you instructed and the Naples embassy requested the transfer 2 weeks ago. We are currently still waiting.
I do have a question regarding the police certificates. As mentioned, I have never lived in Switzerland. In my physical addresses, I only have Italian addresses, so only the Italian police certficates are required.
However, do you think they might ask for Swiss police certificates, since that is my *mailing* address? My parents live there so, since I am always traveling to see my fiancé, I figured it would be better to send important documents to their address instead of mine.
The Naples Consulate needs police certificates if I have lived in a country for more than 12 months in the past 5 years.
Switzerland is not in my physical addresses list, and of course since I have never lived there they do not even know the length of a possible residency in the country.
Because of these reasons, I do not think they are going to ask for it, but I am overwhelmed by paranoia and I'd rather ask someone who knows a lot more than me. 😰

Thank you!!

You stated everything correctly. You only need PC from your "home" country (Italy for you) and from any other country you have LIVED IN since age 16 for more than 6 months (Switzerland doesn't count because you only get mail from their and or visit for shorter periods of time then what is required). So looks like you do not need any PC's outside of Italy. Be sure to verify the requirements for PC's with what the embassy in Italy requires, as some are different then other embassies.

You're wonderful, @emeline29 Thank you! Now, we wait for yours! ❤️

Did Neil take any proof of ongoing relationship in to the interview? I don't want to overload the people at the consulate with unnecessary things. At the moment I have what they've asked for, but nothing extra.

Neil put everything they asked for in one envelope, with the cover letter (list), to hand to them. Everything else, he kept in a folder, with tabbed pockets, in case they asked for something. He labeled the tabs: Income, Proof of Relationship, etc. In the Proof section, he had a sampling of chat logs, receipts for gifts we've sent each other, copies of emails of my communication with the township about our wedding, other emails we had sent each other, and screenshots of us together on a couple of our Google Earth dates.  They asked for none of that but, at least, he felt prepared in case they did. They did ask Neil if I owned my house and he was able to pull out the deed to show them along with the document stating that the mortgage had been paid in full. I had included these in the things I sent him, because my income is above the 125%, but not by much. I wanted to prove that my expenses are relatively low and I have no debt. They were impressed by the way he had everything so organized and was able to produce those papers immediately. My advice is to take with you everything you can think of, just in case. Neil did spend some time, later, shredding the papers he didn't need, but we're glad he had them with him.

This is where you should search your sub-forum and speak to others who have gone before you. (Sub-forum) Search for people who have had their interview to see what is asked. (Select your flag from your profile on the left column). Follow what is needed in the P3 and you should be fine. You can't be 100% sure you will have everything that the CO is going to ask for that's why they have RFE's so you can provide after the interview.

Did having the mortgage "paid in full" statement help @Joyoussinger with an approval, maybe. Would they have past without that document, yes because no one has indicated that a "paid in full" mortgage statement is required. So, best thing to do is follow the P3 and try and not overthink the process.  Remember the RFE process is always there if the CO needs additional information that you may not have with you. RFE's are not automatic denial, they are just a request for additional documents needed to complete the adjudication of your case.

I am someone from @emeline29's country who has just gone before her. My fiance did just have his interview, and I was able to tell her what they asked for. They asked about my owning my house and not having a mortgage, probably because, on my I-134, I stated my house's value and the amount I owe is $0. We followed the P3, and he kept those documents together and ready to hand in. All the extras were in his folder, just in case. The "just in case" happened, although I wouldn't have expected them to ask for those docs in particular. It may well have helped with the approval. As I stated, my income is just above the AOS requirement, and I've read that they take all things into account to get the whole financial picture. Being debt free seemed, to me , like it could help. They did ask for it, so it must have meant something. Whether we would have been approved without it, we'll never know, but we are so happy Neil had it with him. His visa is on the truck for delivery, right now as I write this!  It cost us a little paper and ink. So worth it!

I read her post as well as yours. Looking at the two profiles before answering gave me the information needed to determine that you were from her country. My opine was directed to other sources if she wanted to use them for any further information. What you provided was good information but I sensed a doubt about the entire process from her. My reasoning to you use your "mortgage" as an example is that you were thinking outside the box, BUT you can't bring everything including the kitchen sink to the interview, hence if a document was asked for that the beneficiary didn't have the RFE would be the instrument that the CO would use to complete their adjudication.

You seem defensive as though I was critiquing your and Neil's process for the interview. I was not!

In my reply's sometimes I add additional information, not only for the individuals use but for others that will be reading the posts.

The P3 letter was created in the spirit that the beneficiary will arrive at the interview with the needed information so a smooth and rather quick interview would take place. The CO's are pretty set on which way they are going in their decision, even before the interview. The embassy CO's are the eyes and ears and final decision makers and must use local culture and evidence presented from the beneficiary to complete the "picture". The petitioner is screened (and somewhat the beneficiary) through USCIS so only the financials including the I-134 is needed for the interview from the petitioner.

Congratulations on your success. Here's wishing Neil a safe flight.

Thanks for the congratulations and the wish! I was just trying to be clear. No worries about my taking your comment as critique.  I think I understood the spirit in which you were writing. 😊 I expanded on the topic to give her an idea of what unexpected thing could be asked for. You are right about the financials being needed. Mine sure was! Anyway, for me, I would rather be over prepared, as we were, and not have to wait for an RFE. We actually did only submit what was asked for. Fortunately, we were asked for something extra Neil happened to have with him!

Hey guys. Hope all is well with all of you. I have a question. Kate is flying in tomorrow. I am planning to have her apply for SS asap but it might take some time to get the card. Is the SS required in order for me to obtain the marriage license? Planning to do it in the State of New York, but Pennsylvania is also an option. Ive read mixed information on this question. If someone knows please let me know.

Thank you.

As far as I know, an SSN is not required to get a marriage license in any state; quick googling says it is not in New York State. Which makes sense; two foreign tourists with no intent to immigrate would not have SSNs in most cases, but can still marry.
