Hi there everyone, I have my case sent to the embassy and I'm now waiting for the embassy (Seoul) to send the packet. I have a question regarding the police certificate. They mention that I need to show them police certificate for every country I have lived for 12 months or more. I have lived in Canada for exactly 12 months (365 days) under student visa almost 15 years ago.. Is it really necessary to get that police certificate? I went to the vancover pd police information check website and they ask for fingerprints.. I'm afraid this would delay my interview at the embassy. Anybody have a similar case?

Hi Atya, it sounds to me like you will have to get this, but I am not expert. The language from Seoul embassy says "Police certificates from other countries are also required if your stay was for 12 months or more after age 16." (italics and bold are mine).

However, you can call the embassy if you want, to double check.

Also, I am working through the Seoul embassy for my K1. They should receive my documents from NVC tomorrow. Come over to the Korea sub-forum I started, if you want. Let's at least stay in touch. Good luck!

Also, I just checked the DHL update. It looks like San Juan, Puerto Rico now has our documents,😟.

"Shipment arrived at incorrect facility. Sent to correct destination"

*fingers crossed*

If they ask for it then you need to provide or face denial.

Once you land on the page, review the left column and select the first letter of the country you want to access. Then select your country and once you land on the page for the country your looking for scroll down a bit and find "Police, Court, Prison Records" tab and select it. First thing you want to know is if you are not physically in the country to request your PCC will they provide one. If they don't provide one because of the requirement that you have to be personally in the country then you will not need one from that country. Take a screen shot and print the page off to bring with your to the interview. Most CO's know which country's you can get a PCC from without to much trouble. In the event the CO does not know this for one of your country's you can offer the screen shot in your defense.

Thanks Thomas and Greenbaum. I appreciate your help. I will join the thread you made Thomas. And yeh it looks like DHL screwed up the package. Regarding the police certificate, I think I understand what I need to do. Canada has delegated fingerprint collection process to third parties. So my next steps would be to work with the third party and give them fingerprints that they can upload electronically in to RCMP. I am going to get the fingerprints from my local Seoul police station. Once RCMP clears it the third party will then ship the document back to me.

Do you know if he is alive? Have you tried a Google search on his name? Will the form allow you to answer n/a, unknown etc?

I don't now if he is alive...I've tried Google search, all social networks i thought he could be using. Nothing. Couldn't even find his sisters, probably they changed their last names..

So I can put N/A in address blocks, but what to do with the questions with yes/no options🙄

The Consulate doesn't take telephone inquiries. They don't even provide with any phone number.

It takes them up to 10 business days to answer e-mails..

This is just my opinion. But i would put yes as alive. Since you don’t know if he is or not. Put n/a where i can  As for region. If you have to pick, pick the last one you knew he lived in. Which could be where you were born. And then just explain your situation if it comes up during the interview.

Our case was delivered like 5 min ago. I’m expecting the “in transit” to change to ready on Monday. But who knows.

Fill the form the best you can and when you meet the CO and you begin to discuss your DS-160 provide your history of not knowing his whereabouts and your search to find him. This is not a deal breaker so relax and be truthful and you should be ok. Fill the form as best you can and as you know either "yes" or "no" is probably the wrong answer but after your explanation to the CO you should again be fine. Blanks that ask for information other than yes/no can be answered with N/A.
