Does anyone have any explanation of this? My fiancé went to his interview on April 24th it went very well and he was given verbal approval and the Cairo embassy kept his passport. He was told he would receive his passport within two weeks. I’ve been checking the ceac status and it still shows ready to schedule interview although the case last updated is now at May 6th 2019 (idk what that means). As I’m an already very anxious person I emailed the embassy as per Greenbaums recommendation regarding why my case status hasn’t changed and I got back a very generic email asking me to fill out a supplemental questionnaire that says your application requires additional administrative processing, i filled it out but it seems so random. And now I’m super depressed about what possibly could be happening here I thought the wait was over after his interview 😢

Was this questionnaire a form DS-5535 per chance?

The document is literally a word document with no labels or title. It’s so random that I almost think the person responding had no idea what I was talking about in my initial email. Why would they keep his  passport if they need more info? This process literally breaks you down at every step and makes you paranoid about every thing that could go wrong

Was it questions about your travel history, immediate relatives, contact information, etc?

Yes that’s what was on it. They only sent it to me upon me making an inquiry as to why my status still reads ready post interview

That's what's on the DS-5535 😕 unfortunately, its one of those cases. There was another in Beirut also the same. They were approved at interview, kept the passport and told them they would have it in 7 days then about 3 weeks later they sent the DS-5535 form to fill out. I only know about them because their interview happened the same day as my friend's and they were both approved. Idk what has happened since then but I assume they do their background checks and approve it right after.

<Form>

Compare it with https://www.nafsa.org/_/File/_/amresource/DS5535.pdf

The first part looks about the same. Unfortunately, that might be bad news, as based on my understanding this form is part of current administration "extreme vetting" for Middle East and North Africa countries which leads to indeterminate results. Hopefully it will work out for you sooner rather than later.

I pray this isn’t the case my fiancé has never lived or travelled outside of Egypt never been married before has no children, it’s all relatively straight forward. I don’t understand why they would request this when the interview went well and they kept his passport? Would they return it back to him then?

Unfortunately not many here would have good answers for you. This form (if indeed that questionnaire was DS-5535) was only introduced a year or two ago. There is a thread about it here

I do hope they resolve it quickly.
