You can use the meet and assist services from the airline that are provided to minors. Those same service are available for elderly travelers and those needing extra assistance because of language barriers. This would make sure someone receives her at the gate, takes her through the terminal, and places her at the priority queue for the next flight.

The other thing you can do for her is minimize her transit points. Try to find a route that has at max one stop. Keep in mind that she/he should have a minumum 4 hour layover to transverse through immigration, baggage, custom's and a stop for a meal or snack on their way to the gate.

At most shops they can charge you in the local currency or a major currency; also if you pay in cash (very rare, but happens) they will reimburse you in the local currency.

Print off a terminal map with directions from one area of the airport to her departing gate. Send it the day before or if the airlines always uses those gates then a few days before so that she can print them.

Have a phone with him/her. Make sure it supports all of the frequencies the countries she's going through are using (most newer phones do, but some older phones don't), and a SIM card that has roaming enabled. If she can use a smartphone then also try to get a SIM card that supports data roaming as in that case she could also use tools like Google Translate services around the world, however you can also pre-download dictionaries for offline use for Google Translate, which might come in handy.

Have him/her with a paper of translations of usual sentences in (a) her own language, (b) in English, and (c) in all of the local languages of the international hubs she is going through.

All this can be daunting for someone that has a language barrier.

Thank you, this was all extremely helpful

When I read the P3 letter for your Embassy it doesn't state that you must wait for the consulate to schedule your appointment. It does give you how and what to bring to the interview. I think I once gave you these links. Use them as a check list for everything you'll need to complete and any documents required for the interview.

Thanks for that. I have studied the documents and our consulate website, as well as browsed the
Australian sub forum. As I stated above, our appointments are scheduled by the consulate so we are unable to schedule online.

I was enlightened to that fact earlier. Sorry for the confusion but someone sent me some rather old instructions.

Got a case number this morning (3/14)! Case was received! 3/11/19. NOA2 was 2/11/19.

I've been reading so many comments and different topics through VJ and wanted to make sure I have this right! Now that we have a case number (we're London), is my fiance able to begin submitting his required paperwork and scheduling a medical appointment? Or do we still need to wait until we're notified (email or P3) that London has our case number as well?

The woman on the line this morning told me she can't tell me when it will be shipped (I asked if it would be this coming Tuesday).

Thanks in advance!

If your NOA2 2/11, we are getting close for those of us late Feb NOA2 receivers.

You should be asking these question over in the sub-forum for your country. Asking someone from Ukraine, Germany or the Philippines will end up getting the wrong information. The link is below.

First of all, if you haven’t already done so, make sure you complete your DS-160 and request your police certificate.  Now that you have your case number, you can call Knightsbridge to schedule your medical exam.  You’ll need to give them your case number when you schedule your appointment.  When your NVC case status changes to “In-transit” you can go to https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-gb/iv to create an account and schedule an interview.  Make sure that you allow at least 5 working days between the date of your medical exam and the date of your interview or risk the results from the exam not arriving in time.  For your interview go here https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-gb/iv/  or call here 442074867822

From my understanding the medical exam is good for one year, is it okay to get it done now before our package ships to the Cairo embassy? I had my fiancé call the office that does it and they said wait for the letter from NVC. We’re hoping ours gets sent out with the 3/19 shipment.

From my understanding the medical is good for a year for AOS purposes, but the visa is issued with an expiration based on your medical date (up to 6 months). Call the doctor and ask what he will require to perform the medical. Our wanted our interview appt confirmation. They always want the medical as close as possible to the interview in case you hit a snag (like we did) that delays your entry.

Ours was 1 week away from our interview but now will be 25 days out, not adding any AP before the visa is issued.
