Buy some decent bras! If you're a woman that is. Bigger sized bras are a buggar to find over here!

I noticed that....British women seem to have really large breasts in relation to American women, even accounting for higher rates of obesity in the USA. I'm the same bra size here as in the USA, but shops here sell G cups and bigger! The largest cup size I ever saw in a store that caters for women of average size is DD. Where DO G cup women buy bras in the USA?

I found out I am a 40G. In the US I could never find anything larger than an E cup so I was having to wear like a 44-46 E just so it would fit me. boobs all hanging out the bottom :( Lane Bryant couldn't help me and Catherines you needed to take out a loan just to walk in the door :( Last March I was in England and I noticed that they had larger bra sizes mixed in with the regular sizes. I figure I should get fitted and buy some. I went to M&S and asked one girl to measure me, she sent me to a dressing room and asked me to strip down to my bra. Couple of minutes later another lady comes in and measures me. '40G!' she says and leaves to bring me a few to try on. I was elated! OMG bras that FIT! no special ordering! They made my boobs look nice instead of saggy and frumpy!

Jonny says I walked out of the dressing room with a huge serial killer grin  He also told me that after the first girl took me back to the fitting room, she came out and said loud enough for him to hear from where he was standing, "I'm going to need some help in here, there's a woman in there that needs to be fitted and she has HUGE BOOBS!" then makes the international huge boobs hand motion. That was when the older lady went in to help me.

So yes if you have huge boobs *makes international huge boobs hand motion* I would stock up on bras now cos it's impossible to find them here :(

Ok I got a question - there is one thing I really really want to take with me to Ohio - that is my baked beans!! and my cadburys chocolates I cant stand the chocolate in america - now should I actually put all that with the stuff I am shipping over or should i take it with the luggage I carry over. I was hoping to get a few cases of baked beans and well the two suitcases I have allocated for me and 2 for my fella who is coming to uk to collect me. will get very heavy :)

I also had my computer tower that I will be taking with me - I was hoping to take that on the flight with me as eccess baggae rather than get that shipped as I need my computer as soon as possible!!! and from what I hear some shipped stuff gets delayed or lost! Umm note to myself I have to find a good cheap rate shippers!!

Lina (UKC)

Do you know if your computer tower will work in the US? As far as I'm aware, unless you've done something clever and fiddly with the power/voltage, it won't work. I don't think it works to just use a separate power converter. I could be wrong of course, but something to look into.

A lot of computer power supplies are dual voltage. If you look at the back of your computer where the power cord goes, you may see a switch that can be set to 110 from its current setting, probably between 220-240. If you have something like this, you don't need to do anything special to your computer to make it work in the USA aside from getting the appropriate power cord. You can usually find them at places like Fry's or Radio Shack. Do NOT forget to switch the voltage before plugging your computer in and turning it on; otherwise you could seriously damage it.

If your computer's power supply is not dual voltage, you will need a new power supply in the USA. Don't even bother with voltage adapters. If you don't know how to switch out a PC power supply you'll have to find a friend or pay someone to do it for you. It's pretty easy if you follow the instructions but if you don't feel confident doing it, it's best to get someone else to do it.

I would strongly recommend backing up your important files and removing the hard drive(s) from your PC before packing and shipping it by any method.

Good luck.

My mind is whirling - so much to do and I feel like I have to have it all done NOW!! and I havent even had my medical and interview yet - OMG its next wednesday and thursday - I am so nervous - and his papers havent arrived here yet either:( and my police letter hasnt arrived neither:(

As to the beans i was gonna hopefully ship a case with some other items like books and a few sentimental items I have with a shipping company - when I was looking into this last year I found that some companies shipped by the wieght and some shipped by the container.... anyone have any other ideas on this? umm love my baked beans on toast!:) which Dave has yet to try lol

The best way to pack a computer is really to dismantle it and put its components in static bags, then into individual boxes with styrofoam inserts.

At the absolute minimum, TAKE THE HARD DRIVE(S) OUT before you pack it for shipping. No matter how largely or boldly you write the word 'FRAGILE' on a box, the handlers will pay no attention to it.

One food item that I haven't yet seen in the US (maybe I just haven't looked hard enough) and will miss lots is big slabs of tasty non-processed cheddar cheese!

Though quite how you'd transport that I have no idea...

Cheshire cheese is the problem as my libido runs on that and it is the secret of my enternal youth - I eventually hunted some down at Sendiks in Wisconsin but it was a fortune to buy...

I think 'hard cheese' is importable but I don't know the definition of hard -

I guess you could try it on your mice and if they squeak then it's hard

Or hit it with a hammer and if it goes 'splodge' it's banned - and if it shatters it's legal

I can see me having an argument with chicago customs as to whether my cheese is hard or not...

They will just confiscate it and say 'hard cheese' - meaning it is soft cheese

Very little is cheaper in the UK than the US.

I agree - It's a pity I can't import my property taxes - my house in the UK is worth double Carolyn's in the US but my property taxes are half of hers..

That means that property taxes in the US can be FOUR TIMES the UK on a dollar for dollar house value basis... and she was out in the sticks where property taxes are lower...

of course I only get my bin emptied once every two weeks but even so !

I reckon the US is very high on health costs of any description and property tax but everything else is dirt cheap... dollar is like the lira in the good old days...

I am taking very little

ps anything masquerading as 'beer' has probably got rose petals and cranberry juice and honey and all sorts of junk in it - so a decent pint of unadulterated beer anything like 'Timothy Taylor' will be a distant memory... irreplaceable. So take your own brewers yeast and recipes....wrap it in an aeroplane meal and swallow it to get it into the country - it will take a week or two to retrieve knowing BMI meals - but will be worth it.....

I agree with that - I took my desktop back and forth 4 times and it survived with a small dent ...

If the files are under C drive private area in XP then you might not be able to get at them easily if your machine is smashed and you put the drive in another computer... and some applications have their own security passwords and you might have forgotten em years ago - I always have a D drive partition and keep my pst files (outlook) plus excel word jpg etc on there... then its very easy to zip them into one zip file with a zip password.. then i back em up to dvd to make doubly sure

I use acronis software to clone the first drive to the other so either drive will boot and be identical...

that makes it super sure

The main reason for taking the drives out is so some computer buff doesn't half inch (pinch)them and then steals your identity from the info on there - could cost a lot more than a $500 computer

A desktop computer with flat screen as excess baggage in addition to the 2 times 32kg suitcases, cost around £75 manchester -chicago BMI

I actually think several items of excess baggage is the cheapest way to do it - but of course you are going to look like a drunken successful looter when you try and load em all onto those not free luggage trolleys in the US and get em into that no so big after all car which is parked right down the end there .
