Any feed back from someone who flown them or what's the word around about these 2 airlines, I see lot of cheap tickets with Ryan air but concern about Luggage.

is it 15KG total for all of your luggage so basically around 30 lbs i would say is the max is that so?

Love Ryanair...it's great for a little jaunt providing you're not expecting much.

It's cheap...no frills....no assigned seats, so essentially, most are running to the plane to board it to get the 'good' seats. Good thing about that is that you're not usually waiting for every lazy azz to get on the plane. The airports are usually non-major ones and will have you in BFE as opposed to city-centre. It's a PITA and then you have to worry about transport into cc, but everytime we've flown them, we've had the option of a rental car or a private coach. Usually we pick the coach cos who wants to be straddled with a car in the cc? Good thing about the drive in, you can see some really pretty sights...or even just unwind and sleep!

Luggage allowance is really crappy, but then again, if it's just for a weekend or a short jaunt, it winds up being a workable amount.

Where is this flight to...how long of a trip?

Where is this flight to...how long of a trip?

JFK (New York) to NOC (Knock) West Ireland 2 days in Knock

NOC to DUB via Aer Lingus ( Dublin 2 days in Dublin)

RYAN Air from Dublin to BVA(Paris)

1 week in Paris (France)

Paris to London- London to Dublin

Then Back to NOC Knock for my flight back to JFK

My main concern is regading the luggage, we are planning to flight as light as possible but not sure if it will worth it at the end. Now just waiting for my wife Visa to ireland and France to come through.

That's quite a trip you got planned! Reminds me of one David & I did that was crazy like that from NE England to London to three different countries...

And we did it all with RA.

I am a clothing crazed nut and it was a bit difficult, but we packed quite light. I did wind up with extra baggage, but the lady behind the ticket counter didn't charge us for it. I don't think that's something you should count on, mind you...

Do you have family in NOC that you can leave your big luggage with? The disparity between what you bring on a major int'l carrier and RA is really quite big. But I suppose if you left a bit of stuff in NOC and just jetted around with a big rucksack or so, it's still doable.

Thanks Lisa for all your valuable input,

I checked with the Package, they mentioned I can break down the number of stays, which is great, that way I am planning to stay in Knock for 1 days, then allow 2 days in Knock in case of any travel delays before flying back to NY. Since I'll be staying at the same place for the flight back, I'll call tomorrow to check if I can leave my Bags there in a storage area for a week or so.

Most European Hotels(well the ones we've been to)will hold your bags in this room near the checkout counter. The only problem is that the room is usually left with open access and travelers come and go as they please...bringing in and taking out luggage. We've hadpretty much every hotel hold our luggage before....some of them have been normal standard no fuss hotels, once a B&b (never again!), and once a really small family owned hotel with like 10 rooms, and others have been 5 star. And pretty much this was always the scenario no matter where we went. In fact, I'm trying to remember if ANY of the hotels had a secure facility, and I think I only recall one where our luggage was held by the concierge. All the other times it would make me nervous and essentially ruin our last days in <insert place here> cos I'd be stressing cos of the fact I was worried our luggage would get stolen.

But they never did, so take that fwiw. And the first time, I traveled with Louis Vuitton luggage. It made me sick to my stomach that they were just hanging out all willy nilly, but we chanced it and it was fine.

One word of advice: if you leave luggage, be sure to check it before taking it to an airport. I would always unpack and repack every time we'd get back to our luggage.

I dunno what the right answer is for you, but I do hope the hotel offers some assistance to make this trip easily do-able.

Hi! I haven't flown Ryan Air personally, but my best friend did. The person she was travelling with had excess luggage and was charged for it. The excess fee ended up being greater than the plane ticket! But from what I understand the tickets are pretty cheap anyway, so it may not be a big deal if you get the fee.

Hope you have a wonderful trip!

I've flown Ryan Air and found them to be fine. Honestly the in flight service was better than you get on most US domestics these days, I mean I could actually buy a hot meal on board and not just a "snack box" or stale sandwich. I travel light so the baggage thing wasn't an issue and the last flight I did the price was certainly right (Milan -> London for 25 Euros).

the same thing happened to me on ryan air. the baggage allowance is much to small for travelers coming from the us and hopping from place to place in europe. i ended up having to pay an excess baggage fee that was wayyyy more than my ticket. pack lightly! :)

Thanks all, the tickets with Ryanair are quite cheap, 145Euros from Dublin to Paris, I figured out going this route would be so much cheaper than flying from NY to Paris. And This way i got a little Irish bud added to the trip. The last time I was in Dublin was 5 years ago, it was all work related, very busy now it's going to be for leisure.

They always have great deals, but you don't get meals on board and you cannot book a seat - first come first serve for the good seats. I flew from Frankfurt - Montpellier (roundtrip 90 Euros) and Frankfurt - Bergamo (Milano) for 50 Euros, hihi, a special offer. :)

I had excess luggage (my bag was like 27kg, but they allow I think 13kg, one bag only) and nobody charged me (neither in Frankfurt nor in Montpellier), but my sister flew once from Frankfurt via London to Cork, and the guys in London charged her for her excess baggage.... And I think it was 6 Euros per excess kg.

one thing to bear in mind about the Ryanair flight to "Paris" - Beavais is actually a tiny airport in the middle of the countryside over an hour by bus to Paris. There is a shuttle service that takes you to place de la concorde in the 8th arrondissement which is quite central. But you will then have to make your own way to your hotel. That will add additional time and about 15-20 euros on to your trip

If you fly Aer Lingus you will fly to CDG, which has far more options to getting into town, and is actually near Paris.

Well I dunno German, but in this case, where we landed was not quite frankfurt, so in this instance that's what it means

That'll teach D to hand me his banking info and tell me to sort a trip, hahahahhahah. Hey, the airport's name was Frankfurt Hahn!
