Hey guys, i would like to tell u my situation real quick and then id love some advice :( idk what to do. this whole process confuses me

soooo...i came to the US on a k1 visa, got married, applied for the green card, i got it...for two years....then re-applied for the 10 year green card last March, which is also when my initial green card expired. they sent me a notice l797 that stated that they received my application and will extent my green card for a year so i can work and travel, but this notice is my ONLY proof of that extension...obviously my first initial green card is expired now.

so yeah, my removal of conditions petition is being processed...this extension will expire in March...where do i go from here? will they send me another notice with another extension or i need to do something about it??

i also have a job that wants to hire me but requires that i proof that i am authorized to work in the US....but the only proof i have is this l797 notice...i asked them if thats good enough and they havent replied and im freaking out

any help is much appreciated

The I797, SSN, and expired GC is the only proof you need to work in the USA. Once it gets close to expiration you can schedule a Infopass appointment to get the stamp in your passport to extend it even further. Have you done biometrics yet?

Hi I think you should always have a passport and not expired try to renew it as soon as possible. You don't want to put yourself in critical situations.

Good luck.

guys, i just found another notice l797 that is my most recent notice and it said that instead of extending my expired green card for 12 months, they are extending it for 18 months from its expiration date, which means its good until september of this year. im so relived. i got so nervous...

i will definitely renew my passport within the next few months though because thats important but im glad im like 8 months away from actually expiring.

Just make sure your potential employer is educated on proper work authorization documents. We have seen several members here who had problem getting hired because employer was not fully satisfied with either EAD or extension letter. You can reference instructions to form I9.

Do you have a valid state ID or driver's license? That serves as your identity or type B document. Your expired green card and that I-797 18 month extension serve as a type C document. They have to accept those two documents.
