IS there an immigration involved issue? Is this someone you are looking to sponsor to move to the US?

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Haha! I came back to this thread as I was curious if OP provided an explanation. Looks like he/she did and I think it's prudent to look into getting the paperwork corrected. However, I don't believe getting married again will do anything. In fact, I think it'd make things worse.

I realize getting it corrected is the logical thing to do. I am just very concerned about being a headline. "Stupid american cant read local language ends up in jail instead of on honeymoon".

The lawyer has indeed confirmed I can marry again legally and USCIS will accept it. I know all of you seem to be dead set against this, and I also know lawyers are sometimes wrong, but this has been confirmed by multiple lawyers.

I just find it hard to believe that NY is the ONLY jurisdiction I have found where you can remarry your own spouse.

I think the issue is the need to submit all your Wedding information, what did the Lawyers say about that?

Disclose everything - both marriages, previous divorce judgement, circus at the court, everything.

It is completely impossible to know what you are trying to accomplish since you haven't completed your timeline and you refuse to answer simple questions about your case.  This thread is a waste of my time.

Missileman out!

Missileman out!

Agree.  VJ is DIY.  We will gladly help those who help themselves.  People who like to withhold information and can't answer simple questions so we can help them are so annoying.

Adios.

Then why do you need a second marriage?

Is there a specific reason you don't want to do a divorce (or get an annulment) and then immediately remarry (once the divorce is finalized and you are free to remarry)?

I'm not convinced if the first marriage is actually an issue for immigration or not (the information provided about it is far insufficient to know), but a divorce and remarriage would make any questions about it moot. And it certainly seems to be simpler, possibly quicker, and much less prone to any issues than trying to find somewhere that will let you legally marry while still married.

Not saying this is the best path or not...just wondering why this more traveled path is off the table.
