Hi everyone,

I am in the CR1 category and in the process of gathering all our documents for our interview. Was anyone asked for documents that weren't part of the checklist? Like pictures, letters, print outs of flights etc? Did anyone print anything from the documents they submitted on CEAC?

Also wondering - how important is my husband's ORIGINAL birth certificate? Would a photocopy work?

Thanks so much! Just feeling a little anxious and don't want to forget anything important to take with me.

We did K1 (I know, very different process but in the end we usually go to the same place for our interview) and I brought all the evidence we filed with K1 + new pictures and plane tickets/hotel booking from after filing for K1. They might ask you for more evidence in the interview.

Also, original birth certificate is usually required together with a photo copy. In Amsterdam you have to bring the original, just photo copy will not be accepted. But they allow you to bring a photo copy so they can see both but just keep the copy for their file and return the original with your passport/visa. I would think Canada would require originals too, usually it says it on the checklist you get.

I was IR1. I was asked for my husband’s original divorce decree, my birth cert, original Privacy Act Police Cert, my original divorce cert, our original marriage cert. I had photocopies of everything, they didn’t ask for them. I had photos, they never asked for them either. The checklist at the embassy says original AOS but I was never asked to show it. They returned all originals after the interview

The Montreal interview was super easy.  We were very prepared with evidence of domicile and updated tax documents, but none was asked for.

You definitely want original birth certificates/marriage license/etc.  They will want to see the originals and then give them back to you.  You should bring a photocopy as well in case they want to keep it.

Can anyone please share the Montreal Interview experience and questions asked?  I am in CR1 category. Thanks in advance.

1) What is the full name of your husband?

2) Where is your husband now?

3) How long have you lived in Mexico?

4) Why did you change embassies from Juarez to Montreal?

”That’s all the questions I have for you, your file is very complete. Welcome to the USA Brenda!!”

I fretted all the night the night before and it was all for nothing. So easy if you have all your papers in order. I wrote an embassy review if you want to review it. Bottom line, have your original civil documents in order and you’ll be fine.
