How to get health coverage while waiting for AOS?

Hello,

My husband is currently waiting for his social security number to come in, apparently they aren't going to give it to him until his employment authorization goes through.  In the meantime I want to get him health coverage because I am not sure how long all this process will take, and I tried to get him on my insurance but they did not accept him without a social security number.  Where can immigrants go to apply for health coverage while they are waiting for their social security number?

He does not need a SSN to go on your Insurance.

Agree he shouldn't need one for your insurance.

However in case- I was able to purchase insurance on the healthcare.gov marketplace without a SSN (at least temporarily while I waited for valid immigration status). However he would need to qualify for a special enrollment now as I believe the standard enrollment period is up.

My husband needed my SSN to get me on his insurance, but that was through work. I'm not sure if he needed it when we got private insurance. Did it go through work or is it a private insurance? If they really don't want to accept him, you could look into special travel insurance from his country. Most countries have some sort of temporary insurance for people who immigrate.

I'm in the same boat.  Trying to get my wife added to my insurance, but my company tells me she needs her SSN first.  I'm trying to work with HR to see if the insurance company can add her anyway as long as I submit her SSN within the next few months when we get it.  Meanwhile, wifey doesn't want to leave the house because she doesn't know what she'll do if something happens and she doesn't have health insurance.

If K1 is still valid, you can get SSN with K1 visa and i94. Do it before 10 days of K1 expiration date.
