Database used by SSA and Employers to determine status

Was reading an article in the LA Times, Click here

"Another helpful tool from the Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration is a digital database that began in 2003 to help employers check an applicant's immigration status within minutes. The system has been used by 10,000 employers, the agencies said, although one recent study found that as many as 20% of the responses from the computer system were inaccurate."

Just curious what employers use this database (SAVE?) and how it might facilitate things for those looking for work with a EA. If the article is right, it might not be much help at all.

Conversely, it might help employers overcome their skepticism when a K1 presents a passport with a I-94 plus EA stamp from POE.

thanks
