Hi all,

My fiance and I are waiting for Packet 3 to come so we can schedule our medical. Is it necessary to wait for packet 3 or can we just call up and schedule?

We found a great deal for a return train ticket to London from Leeds for only £12.80 but we need to use it soon so we thought this would be a good use for it!

Thanks for your help.

Jenny

You need P3.

I think you can call and *schedule* it if you have your case number. But, if I recall correctly from other threads, you'll need some forms that are IN the packet and you don't want them mailing the medical back to the Embassy before the Embassy has your information in the computer. So if you have your LND number and you have to book the train ticket within a certain time to keep the price, you can always try it and just cancel the appointment time if it doesn't work out.

p.s. have you called the State Dept to check on the progress yet? I called yesterday and they told me that they had mailed P3 on 5/20. He hasn't received it yet, but we're hoping it gets to him tomorrow or the next day. It should, based on others' reported data.

instructions for calling, lifted from some other post somewhere that i've saved on my desktop:

London Embassy:

The State Department is on 001 202 663 1225 then press 1,0,0 to talk to someone

They can tell you whether the Embassy has put the file on the system, saves you calling the premium rate line in London to ask!!

My fiance tried the UK number - to that Scotland call center or whatever - and they knew nothing. When I called the State Dept, US-side, about an hour later, they had it in the system and said p3 had shipped out already.

So if you have your LND number and you have to book the train ticket within a certain time to keep the price, you can always try it and just cancel the appointment time if it doesn't work out.

Bear in mind that if you do not cancel in time (I think it's 3 days) Knightsbridge Doctors will charge you £80. You have to give them a debit/credit card when you book, so you can't dodge it.

I'd echo what devilette said -- wait for P3. There's a medical form -- IV18a -- which comes in P3 which you must take with you. You'll also need your LND number, which comes with P3. (Perhaps someone knows if you can get it ahead of time from the DoS?) If it were me, I'd wait.

You can get the LND number from NVC as soon as it gets there. I have mine already.

It's up to the OP to protect financial assets and do it logically. I don't know the particular of the train tickets (I do recall what UK train companies can extort for London returns, however, the barsts!). OP has to piece together the timeline and the risks.

Thanks for the advice guys, I think I'll just wait for Packet 3. I do have my LND number from the NVC. Hopefully it will be here in a few days. We were just so excited for the cheap train fare.

Timsdaisy, thanks for the number. I am going to go try to call them. I had called the other number that charges £1.20/minute and they didn't have anything yet.

Let me know what you hear. I'd love to know if they give you a date that packet 3 mailed. I feel silly getting frustrating waiting just a few days so far, given the NOA2 wait, etc, but I'm out of my head! I want him to have packet 3 . . . NOW!!!!! Oy.

More precisely, I want him to get it so he can shoot it back before the bank holiday weekend. Oh well, at least the bank hol and memorial day fall on the same day so the Embassy only gets ONE day off, right? They better.

Daisy,

I called the number you gave me and they said the embassy sent Rich packet 3 on Tuesday, May 22. We still don't have it and we, like you, wanted to send it back asap before the bank holiday. I guess things can take a couple days to get from London to Leeds....

I wonder how close our fiance's interviews will be!
