An SSN is issued for life. Unless there is a reason a new card is needed (i.e. lost card, name change, etc.), there's no need to go back to them.

The only exception is when you get a green card (or naturalize) you can go back to get an unrestricted card. It's not required, but makes things simpler for an I-9 especially during ROC.

9/5/18: Interview scheduled notice, 10/17/18: Interview

10/24/18: Green card produced notice, 10/25/18: Formal approval, 10/31/18: Green card received
