Government shutdown affect Social Security?

Hi I already married and I have requested social security number to social security office before I will apply AOS (I 485). I will submit my AOS after I receive my Marriage certificate being mailed to our address.. (About next two weeks the latest - we are in LA)

Now with government shutdown, I heard that social security process will be delayed. Should I just process the AOS and tell in the explanation that my SSN is still pending due to govt shutdown and not require them to process the new one... Or I should wait SS card to be arrived which is we don't know yet when this shutdown will be over.. I kinda confused..

Not currently affected.  SSN is NOT a requirement for AOS

hi thanks.. I forgot to mentioned as well that I will apply EAD (i-765) and AP (i-131) altogether with AOS so we don't need to pay additional fee..

The questions about SS mostly asked in i-765 form. So there will be no problem at all right if I don't put my SS yet number yet in these forms (if my SS card is not arrived yet by  the time we submit these forms)?

Hi my husband received his green card and we went to the SSA office this Monday. I can confirm that the shutdown is not affecting the social security office as we received the SSN card today in the mail. Good luck with everything :)

Hi congratulations for the green card... And thank you for let me know.. So you guys also applied EAD and AP as well at the same time or not ?

No problem.

13.a. select "No" since you have not yet received official confirmation that a SS card has been issued.

14. select "No" since your SS card request is currently pending.

No. An SS card issued based on an EAD will have the same language. You would only do so if there was an update needed (like a name change).

Once you have a green card, you can get a new SS card without that language. This is called an unrestricted card (which can come in handy during ROC).

Your friend is wrong. You can work with the EAD (when received) and the restricted SS card you received yesterday. Also, look at @geowrian's post above.

And now you can select "Yes" for 13.a. and enter the SSN for 13.b. on the I-765. If I'm not mistaken the I-485 and I-131 also have boxes to input the SSN.

Hi @geowrian,

I have my SSN before applying for AOS. The officer @SSA office  said that I need to updated my status, while  my EAD released.

if thats not true, then  I will be very happy because it will save my times..

Thank you!

A lot of SS employees give out incorrect info since they are not qualified. @geowrian's info is correct.
