Well, at least if you move to Canada, you have the option of going over and staying there while your application is being processed!! And, after the initial approval, which is supposed to take 3-4 months, you have permission to work.

Misty: this seems to be working both ways. I was stuck in the Canadian immigration nightmare for 20 months with no movement whatsoever! I just withdrew my application this week and am moving back to the U.S. (without Canadian husband sadly). Seems the U.S. doesn't want Canadians and Canada doesn't want Americans... go figure.

Yes, I've heard it takes pretty much exactly the same amount of time for Americans to come to Canada these days, I guess that's why I haven't just given up and asked my husband to come here instead.

20 months with no movement at all though?! Wow... tsk tsk Canada

that's weird. When I immigrated to Canada in 2004 it took 9 months and that included the app getting lost for 2-3. bummer that it's so much longer now.

It is just my case apparently. I am seeing people get first stage approval in about 7 months, but I never even got that far. To add insult to injury, CIC is informing me they will can take up to 1 year to refund my $1,600 in application fees.

Anyway, glad its behind me and I am on my way home on Monday to start a new job the following Monday. Hopefully USCIS will be kinder to my husband and me than CIC was...

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread.

Not the case, I never received initial approval and thus, no job, no medical benefits, can't even register my car. Not to mention, the CIC Call Center agents that like to threaten me with deportation... another long story.

Anybody know if NVC is done scheduling for October yet?

Yep, they were done Friday @ midnight.

I just called. They're not done scheduling yet.

I phoned on Friday and was told to try Wednesday of this week. :(

I did manage to get through to the NVC today (@9PM EDT). I was told to try back on Wednesday as they have not finished scheduling yet.

I just called NVC, was on hold for about 5 min, talked to very nice lady, she told me "they finished sch. for Oct last week and we didn't get an interview, so I should call second week of Nov, or Dec and hopefully I'll get a good news by then"

This morning I was told to call back Friday.

Seriously, what the hell is going on at the NVC? Why is it not possible to get a consistent response from them?

I've been holding off on calling so far this month because I not feeling up to (likely) facing further disappointment. :( This situation is maddening....

It's indeed quite strange...I don't know where I read that, maybe Misa...says they have a certain number of immigration visas per year or month to schedule...do anybody know more abut this? and also, did anybody ask the help of senator or congressman?...do they have any power at this level of this process? But let's not despair too much and hope now that those who are waiting for long time will have soon their turn!...i just feel it! hang on !!! (F)

Yeah, it was just pure speculation my part that they have only a certain number of slots for CR-1/IR-1 each month which includes DCF. It is possible that most of the slots this past year were filled up with DCFs who got caught up with the Adam Walsh stuff. Just a theory though and someone (was it thermophile?) asked Montreal but they didn't give much of an answer.

However, I noticed there is a recent DCF person who got their interview date really fast so hopefully that means that they will have slots open for the NVC and for all of you.

Funny we should be debating this right now, because I just emailed NVC not two hours ago asking this:

"Hello, I had a question I was hoping you could shed some insight on for me.

I am just curious as to how the CR1 visa interviews are scheduled. I know there are only a certain number of slots every month that are given to NVC from the Montreal Consulate, but I just wondering: Are CR1's given the leftover slots from DCF's or from K3/K1 visas?

Thanks"

I'll post whatever they respond with, it will most likely be a round-about way of telling me to take a hike, but I figured I'd at least try to squeeze one juicy little timbit of info from them. And yes, I said Timbit, not tidbit!

If I had to guess, I would guess leftovers from DCF because up until earlier this year, CR-1/IR-1 interviews were approximately 2 months from NVC case complete whereas K1s and K3s were "consistent" at about a 4-6 month wait at that time. Did that make sense?

Makes sense. It would seem to fit the equation too, since the most recent DCF's were waiting about 4-6 months for their interviews, and that seems to be where the CR1's are now.

Then again there was that one DCF a couple weeks ago that had about 1 1/2 months between case completion and the interview. Sometimes I think they just do that to confuse us.

"We are not responsible for the backlog at Montreal. The consulate only gives a certain number of interviews per month, which we cannot predict, and you may call back after the 2nd week of November so we may laugh as we squash your little hopes over and over and over again."

And we're looking at 7 months of waiting so far.......
